Potting soils?

It makes no sense to use a milder soil just so a seedling makes it when your gonna need the nutes later. I know some people have no problems starting in FF. Ocean forest would be the hottest. Even though it's good stuff I still refuse to pay the prices for it. I made my own soil this year based off SubCools system( https://www.rollitup.org/subcools-old-school-organics/338384-2010-revised-super-soil-recipe.html ) with 10.00 per 2 cu ft bag with the same ingridients as FF. There's a million different soil recepies but for ease of convience you can't beat FF bag soil.

I need alot of dirt ! LOL Not even half as much as these other guys. LOL 18 bags in all.

yea this is my general plan, im lost in a world of info. i plan to get some organic base soil, mix some worm casting, and some espoma bulb tone(trying to keep it as simple as possible with good results) maybe a few other goodies depending on how i feel and whether i learn anything new between now and then. idk got a little while yet but its coming up fast. i still have to get all my shit together, if u want some ffof, mix it 2 bags ffof to 1 bag light warrior, (one of subcools recomendations for an organic base soil) im just gettin into organics so its all pretty new, but im figuring it out

I started some seeds on Christmas day, I germinated the seeds in paper towels, then planted them into 20oz Solo cups filled with Fox Farms Ocean Forest. Today is day 19, and starting to see rapid growth.
So to answer your question, its perfectly fine to start your seeds in FFOF with no issues.
I personally use FFOF and I mix in Kelloggs Patio Plus @ $4.67 a bag from Home Depot 50%-50% with another 15%-20% perlite added to the mix.

JJ05, you need to pick TWS's brain!!! Follow that mans advice!! Why BUY a soil that has known issues (it's all over the forums with folks who ahve problems using it) when you can build your own superior soil for just a bit more? I'm not saying that making our own is cheap, but the end result blows FF products out of the competition.

Also, just fyi, Fafard ( www.fafard.com ) has a wonderful base potting soil available, dirt cheap!! (couldn't resist!!)

I use ff's soil, I mix them up though. 40% ff oceans forest, 40% ff happy frog, 20% perlite.. With this mix, I don't feed my plants any nutes for roughly 4 weeks...
