Power Consumption And Getting Raided

Can someone explain how power consumption and getting raided works?

Like, if you had 16, 600 watt bulbs, you'd be around $400-500 a month for a power bill. Would that alone be enough to get your door kicked in? $400-500 could easily be a heating bill if you had all electric heat.

Think there is any merit to the idea of having a set of extra lights that you only use during the winter?

They look for deviations, not totals. Like if last year you paid 100 in december and this year you paid 600, they are going to suspect. Even more so when they see the neighbor is only paying 100 like usual.

Depends if you own the building pay your bill and you should be fine, if anyone questions just say you have a wood working shop.

But wouldn't getting central air or a new furnace cause an immediate, not gradual, deviation?

Is 9600 watts too big? The guy doing the 16,000 watt grow doesn't seem to give a shit :)

NO.1 reason for getting raided- telling people
NO.2 stealing leccy- make sure you pay your bills
they aint going to grass up good customers who pay up on time.

as long as you pay your bills on time and dont steal electric you be fine, i cant see an electric company getting suspicious as winter is on its way so you use more electric anyway. how do they know you not bought a huge fishtank and got pumps and filters etc running or you got a workshop in ya backyard

as long as you have your card you straight, i've seen buddy's pay 2200 dollar power bills and smile. If you dont have your med card, or your not in a med state i wouldnt go over 400.

I was talking to a guy at a hydroponics store who lives in an apartment, and what he was saying is that if you remain under 5000kWh's/month total power consumption you will be safe.

The average Energy consumption per household in Canada in 2007 was 2453kWh's/month
The national average for a 900Sq/ft apartments in 2007 was 1018kWh's/month
And for a 1600Sq/ft single detached house was 3194kWh's/month
source: http://oee.nrcan.gc.ca/publications/statistics/sheu07/factsheet/summary.cfm?attr=0

That being said... From what I understand, there are MANY factors that could arouse suspicion. IE: You don't pay your bills on time, one month you use 1100kWh's and the next you use 5200kWh's (high electricity fluctuation/inconsistency) You see, technically speaking as long as you pay your bill on time, and your electricity consumption is not impossibly out of the ordinary IE: 9000kWh's in an apartment in 1 month.. when some people only use 14 000kWh's in a year.. No one should look your way. Obviously if you are renting it would be inadvisable to get "electricity included in your rent" if you intend on using a decent amount of electricity, such acts may also look suspicious..

Here is a list of Residential energy rates in and across Canada.

Residential Bill Calculations
One Month Bill For:
Cities 375 kWh 750 kWh 1,000 kWh 2,000 kWh 5,000 kWh
Calgary AB $50.17 $82.85 $104.63 $191.76 $453.16
Charlottetown PE $69.76 $114.95 $145.07 $265.57 $541.57
Edmonton AB $52.25 $83.77 $104.79 $188.86 $441.07
Englehart ON $66.34 $111.92 $143.36 $272.82 $661.22
Halifax NS $57.86 $104.88 $136.23 $261.63 $637.83
Kenora ON $48.04 $83.49 $108.05 $210.55 $518.09
Moncton NB $56.67 $93.61 $118.23 $216.73 $512.23
Montreal QC $32.40 $52.62 $68.21 $143.31 $368.61
Regina SK $59.07 $98.86 $125.38 $231.48 $549.78
Saskatoon SK $59.06 $98.85 $125.37 $231.46 $549.74
Saint John NB $49.09 $83.03 $105.65 $196.15 $467.65
St. John's NL $50.63 $86.26 $109.86 $204.26 $487.47
Toronto ON $54.72 $92.92 $119.26 $229.04 $558.37
Vancouver BC $30.15 $58.06 $82.71 $181.31 $477.12
Winnipeg MB $31.68 $56.50 $73.05 $139.25 $337.85

So Assuming 5000kWh/month is the maximum you can consume before the cops were to knock, you would probably want to stay somewhere under 80% of that, so lets say 4000kWh's/month.. If you live where you grow Consider 1000kWh's/month in general electricity usage. That leaves 3000kWh's/month for growing.. if 25% of the electricity used was for things other then the lights IE: heating, cooling, hydroponic, air filters, fans... ETC.. that leaves 2250kWh's/month for lighting, which could break down to something along the lines of. 4x 1000W hps running @ 18/6 = 72kWh's/day or 2160kWh's/month. Another example would be. 10x 600W @ 12/12 = 72kWh's/day or 2160kWh's/month.. Either of these 2 combinations will keep you WELL under 5000kWh's/month, which IMO I would consider to be a very high energy consumption for anything smaller then a 5 1/2 apartment.

Food for thought!:joint:

energy company = greedy fucks.....nobody cares what your bill is as long as you pay it....i know people who do not grow and have electric bills that are over 700$ a month...i have had bills as low as 125$ and other months over 900$...lets say for one year your bill averaged 200$ monthly...then you fired up your lights and the bill was 900$ a month, nobody cares if you pay it...i have done this

If this is the case and I wanted to rent a 2 bedroom apartment in the Montreal region, seeing as 5000kWh/month is under 400$ would it be a safe amount to use ?!

you should also take into account you can be raided for the "heat signature" that your lights and put off ! these lights are soo hot and put off so much heat, if a helicopter scanning for heat flew over your house, you would def. be noticed.

I don't know man, once a helicopter flew over my house and went past just two houses behind my backyard. It then turn around and I swear it look like it was scooping my house out. Lucky i was at home at the time so i turn the light off. It flew away after two minutes, and let me remind you that helicopter was pretty low than the usual height they fly with. It was around after 12Pm too.

My neighbor just put in a giant pool and a hot tube. I asked him if his power went up and he said more than doubled.

i was under the assumption that thermal scanning was ruled unconstitutional ...and as far as not going over 400$ is absurd....i have had bills much higher and i know of people who have 700 and 800 $ bills and do not grow or even smoke

I have to tell you folks something.... when I am not growing... I never see helicopters, planes, I don't see power company vehicles....... When the grow is on.. all of a sudden the helicopters are hovering.... Strange cars parked across the street.... power comapny vehicles driving around the neighborhood..... They were around the whole time and I never got raided.... We just are a little more aware of whats going on because of what we are doing.... But nothing has changed.... Just the plain old shit of helicopters doing what they do... Power company vehicles fixing lines.... Stangers stopping across the street to look up directions.... Yada yada yada.....

In this day and age explaining absurd power usage is easy. "Oh I just bought an Alienware Area-51 ALX Computer running 1100W with dual GPUs running 4 30"+ monitors that do better than 1080p resolution and I'm so addicted to World of Warcraft that it's running constantly and I'm raiding right now so can we talk about this later." I'm not sure what the monitors would be running usagewise but it's gonna be another kW at least. Not too mention big screen TVs "I have ADHD and need at least three forms of media for constant stimulation. I need to go take 10 Adderalls right now canwetalkaboutthislaterbye." Oh and I run this all while I'm in my hottub "can we talk when I hav clothes on bye."

One thought.... Hot tub = Electricity excuse, and is also going to give off a heat signature. So, why not grow in your empty hot tub? It's like the perfect solution :D
