Power cord shortage?

I have a 1000w ballast and 1000w mh bulb and it comes on but when it gets to a certain brightness it flickers and shuts off but the ballast stays on as do the fans,room lights,air purifier, and everything else the breaker doesn't pop either. Could it be the wire that goes from the ballast to the hood has a short in it?

No if it had a short it would do something immediately, check your bulb with another ballast if possible, then try your ballast either another bulb.

Well I had a different ballast yesterday and traded it in for another same thing and a different bulb only common denominator is the wiring.

And just to make sure you know what I'm talking about I'm new to using lights like this I think it's the wire that runs power from the ballast to the hood

Ok hold up gonna get a pic. One question to though my ballast has 2 different spots to plug it to the power 1 says 240v the other under it says 120v could this make a difference? ? I didn't notice it until a minute ago it was behind a plastic cover

Yeah that's going to make a difference plig it into what ever voltage u r using
120v is what most all your standard receptacles are.

Sounds like a capacitor, (starter) is dead in the ballast, avoid wrapping your spare lead like that

..it can start a fire, take the ballast for a service, is the best ...

but look to the obvious first...

screw the bulb in tight then try again?

I traded ballasts yesterday been been running it on the 240v plug didn't notice the 120v side till today gotta try that
