I have a rental apartment with an average two month power bill of $30 to $50 for every unit in the building id assume. So im running a 400w mh and an ocilating fan and an inline fan. 18/6 and im wondering if im in any sort of trouble since there is a meter room. and chances are mine would be the highest. reading out of a 50 unit apartment (i think)

should be ok, they might think you have ac , or you could say you have a sunbed.
just turn all the things off you are not using, and try to level it out.
switch off things you are not using.

My computer power supply is 600 watts, just say you have a few computer servers and you are in the clear. Try to minimize your power usage by plugging everything in to power strips and keep them turned off when not in use (eliminates phantom power drains which all electronics have) and replace all of your light bulbs with cfls. A 400 watt with fan should cost no more than $20 or so a month depending on what part of the world you are in....hope this helps.

The computer PSU is 600W max output. Doesn't mean it uses 600W all the time its on.

Put CFLs in everywhere, curb as much elec as possible. Keep the fridge and freezer full. No one will notice.

But the $20 is about right. At 15 cents a KW, 450 for the lamp (ballast has about 50w overhead) and 20 for a fan both running 12 hours a day, I come up with $25.46 a month.

god this is posted so much, I've answered it 4 times in the last week lol.
I've allso allways said this. Electronics say the max watts, yeah a pc may have a 600w PS but only uses a few hundred most of the time. The difference with grow lights is their usage is constant.

15 cents a KWH? holy fuck, I thought I payed alot for power at 7 cents lol.

Anyway look at your power bill and find out how much per KWH
then do this,

WATTS x 18 x 30 DIVIDED BY 1000
450 18hrs days = Your Monthly KW used. 243 in this case.

Multiply that by your KWH price and thats how much it will cost to run your light.
Example: 243 KW x .07 Cents = $17.01

I wouldn't worry about it, yeah try to shut other stuff off when ur light are on.
If your going to add another light, I suggest a 600 watt hps for flowering, the 600's are much more efficient than the 400's and don't cost much more.

it wont matter,
the power comp wont tell the law every time people use a bit more power, otherwize they wouldnt sell any.

No, but they CAN tell when you're vegging, and when you're flowering. LEO looks for regular "KNOWN" cycles of usage, such as 24/7, 18/6, 12/12. Now whether the power co. reports these regular usage cycles is another matter. Highly doubtful, but it could be one more piece of probable cause for LEO to bolster an otherwise weak warrant.
2 400w HID lamps put my bill up by $30 per month. Thats not including fans. The worst I think will happen is that the landlords gonna want a bit more from ya for the added power usage
I don't see you growing enough to even worry about the cops tho, unless you get talkative and show off your plants to alot of people. Larger grows are the ones who show up on the radar. Hell, I'm doing 20 to 25 plants per, and I really aint worried. You guys/gals here are the only ones besides my wife who have seen or heard of them.:blsmoke::peace:

My reason for concern was not Cost yet the fact that i would quite possibly be the highest tenant for power usage in my Rental building. which like i say my average was $30/2 month so all units in the building are the same price. roughly. I was concerned about doubling or tripling my bill. that is all. and like i say these are shitty rental units.

i have a friend that works for a power supply company, and what he tells me is the DA wont even consider a warrant for an electric bill alone and 6 KW/HR is the minimum a DA will consider in conjuntion with other evidence...

If they have reason, it wont be your electric bill...
