Power requirements

I recently moved to a house and I am looking at putting a 4x8 tent in the basement. Unfortunately the room I am placing it in has no easy access outlets, so I am looking at putting in a dedicated subpanel to run all of the tents electrical. I would welcome any advice on power set-up or what some things to consider for expansion. While I am mechanically minded, electrical scares me a bit, so I will probably hire a professional to do the work.


My question to all of you, is what should I ask for or be aware of for a project like this?

make a list of all devices you plan to run. which ones are 120v? which ones are 240V? add up all your watts you plan on using.

are you in a legal state? if so, find a cannabis friendly sparky and tell him this is what you plan to run.

Living in Michigan so home use is legal up to 12 plants. I have the approx. wattage figured out. I suppose I should clarify a bit. I was thinking of logistics. My first thought was to run all of the main equipment of separate circuits, but I think that would pose a problem for an controller stand point.

I was figuring 1600 available watts for lighting (I will be using less)
64 watts for ventilation
300-700 watts for a dehumidifier
1500 watts for a heater (winter only)

4 x 240w QB = about 9 amps/1080volts. 1600 watts for a 4x8 is a lot of power unless you're running HPS.

There are also oil filled heaters that have adjustable settings, and you can run them at 700 watts. I've found that's way more than enough to heat a room and a tent. They are slightly bigger, but every IR heater I've used on the "low" setting still pulls around 1300 watts.

Cheaper and better option that doesn't include electricity is using your central air/gas furnace to the heat the house.

The 1600 watts for lighting is a bit overkill, but I don't have the specific lights picked out, so I may have over estimated the overhead. As to tying into the to the forced air system, that seems like something I could possibly do myself. It would take about 5 odd feet of ducting and it would save quite a bit on electrical costs (around here its $0.23 per kwh). I may have to do that.

If you stick with LED, 1200 watts is a safe over estimate by about 15%

agree with bunny, 37.5w per sq ft. Is what l run, might want to think of co2 enhancement. If keeping light close to canopy. 30w per sq ft is lowest level for flower from everything lve read so far. Good luck in your adventure.
