LMAO at that girl :P
I didnt have the washer, or dryer pluged into the power strip, what I did was probably worse :P I had an extention cord pluged into it, that had at the end a timmer with 3, 400W lights, a few fans, a radio, andd, a laptop. I had the washer and dryer pluged into a thing that turns one socket into 3, that was okay, but my new situation has the washer and dryer pluged into the power strip, along with an ozone generator, an inline fan, and somthing else... dont know what that is... but I NEED IT!!!
but now my lights are on a heavy duty extention cord, attached to a timer, that now has the 3 splitter thing that was previously used for the washer and dryer. it also has 3 fans on it... I dont know if I was safer before or after the switch... or if I'm about the same.

There's absolutely no way that setup won't burn down your house.

why is that? a few posts ago you were agreeing with me now your not!
i thought we were on agreement that if you don't exceed the limit that is labled you are safe. (i'm using 33% less than what its rated for) This seems alot better for the lights, while it seems alot worse for the washer and dryer. but I dont wash cloths all day everyday, maybe 2 times a week tops.

tired of thread jacking :P I'm making a thread, help me out!

A washer, dryer, ozone generator, fan? That's thousands of watts. If it's below the rated amount it should be ok, but I didn't think it would be at that wattage.

it's definitely below the rated amount. most of the stuff isn't on often, for at 12 hours a day I'm only using the ozone generator (which is only .32 amps), one fan, and nothing else. that's usually when I do my laundry. but as I said I don't do it every day :P :)
and for the 12 hours I do use electricity its about 13 amps all together, still under the rating for the extension cord, timer, and all that other fun stuff.

DON'T DO IT, MAN. You'll burn you place down. A washer and dryer uses a 220 line, the three prongs on the input side of the cord. you are asking for trouble and dare I say, playing with fire.

What about my setup? I'm only plugging in lights and maybe a fan or two.

Its ok...

My bedroom only has 1 single plug socket, it runs everything with a few adapters (ok, this'll scare some people!)

single wall socket - 2-way cube...

cube plug one into 4 way with computer, monitor, external hard-drives
cube plug two - 2-way extension

2-way extension 1 - 6-way with hi-fi seperates, guitar amp, phone charger

2-way extension 2 - extension with 2-way cube on it (1...running across room width taped down several times)...t.v. and extension with 2 way cube on it (2)

extension with 2 way cube on it (2...running under bed) - clock radio/lamp

...had that plug rig in my room for the last 8-9 years and no problems - ok, its not really that safe but theres been no problems so far! (and the 2-way extension is from 1976 or something...)

would plugging all you lights into a powerstrip and then plugging the powerstip into timer plugged into the wall be a problem... if it is a probably i'll have to have a timer for each light?

I dont either but I can post pics of the power strip, it looks like it caught fire!!! its all burnt and melted around the sockets :( this thread really probably did save me! I bought a new heavy duty extention cord, and a medium (WTF?) duty powerstrip today, that I have a washer and dryer pluged into... hope thats not a problem...
Was told by my electric guy that you dont use a regular dollar store exention cord for anything but a telephone or something small!!! You can go to the local hardware store and by an insulated heavy Gage with no worries.. Also.. i checked by emailing my surge protector manufacturer and they mailed me back saying " Following the proper limits of the protector will guarentee proper performance without the risk of a fire. Piggie backing in the sense of plugging in two surge protectors cancels out the ground of the sockets and creates hot spots internally... You can however plug an three pronged extension cord insulated into our protector with almost zero risk of fire or surge."

Dude change your outlet to a GFI and then use the surge protector takes ten minutes costs 2.40 for the outlet and you dont have to be an electric guru to do it... just dont touch the red and black together in any way!!

is it accessable or behind something if its easy to get to just unplugg some shit untill you need to use it .. that would be easy enough.. im running a surge protector into the wall gfi with my computer on it and two medium gage extension cords heading into my room with another surge protector plugged into that.. two fans and some other shit... but not worried about it after i talked to my electrition and the surge protector company... they assured me unless i have a shit electircal box i should be good:fire::wall::finger::weed::-P
