I'm a little confused with PPM issues. If I have 1 gal of tap water into a reservoir, and I want to add 1000 ppm of mixed nutes into that reservoir; does that mean the water is going to be too hard?

BTW what does it mean for water to be too hard? does it mean that there's too many parts of nutes into the water, that it cannot transfer easily into the roots? and soft meaning that there's not too much parts of nutes into the water, but just right?

hard water is just that...water with high mineral content, usually calcium and iron and whatnot. Water softeners use salt to break down the minerals.

chances are your dealing with tap water thats already 150-300ppm.
