Pre-Growth Advice

Hi, all first time grower here, doing this mostly for private & not commercial purposes. I'm going to be asking a few questions in this thread, so I'm just going to start here.
I decided to get a grow kit to save on costs, i bought it before i thought of asking if it was good, but life's like that some times.

Anyway. I'm wondering what do you all think about this kit?

Also I'm having some trouble deciding on where to buy seeds from attitude or nirvana. Any suggestions?

Last question. Do you recommend any particular strains for a growing virgin? or should i try to work it out with some bagseeds?

Thanks for all your support.

first.
the setup you purchased is only going to support the plants through the vegetative stage of life.
the bulbs are not intense enough light to flower with.

second.
i've used attitude seed bank over 5 times and have recieved top quality seeds with 10 days evertime.

third.
i recomend any strains from tga genetics.
straight dank

kings kush (og kushx grape ape) from greenhouse seed company.
i would recomend this strain to any beginning grower.

The cali grow kit specialist claim that these bulbs offer enough light to grow 6-12 plants. They claim that most bulbs that are stronger are overkill and may burn the plant. They say they have 2 specialty bulbs 1 for veg & 1 for bloom. Any truth to this? Also with the setup they gave me cuz i dont want the kit to go to waste. What bulb should i buy?

These lights are not at all suitable for flowering because:

1. they emit light on the blue side of the spectrum which is great for vegging, but flowering requires primarily red/orange light.
2. although the lumen - watt ratio is ok, the lumen output just isn't enough.

The good thing is that you can sort the lighting out really easily by putting in a few more fittings and getting some red colour bulbs. I am currently flowering 7 plants under a 600W hps, which puts out 85000 lumens rather than 20000 and some of our lower fan leaves aren't really getting much light already. I think 6-12 plants is a significant exaggeration. not having enough light will increase your chances of getting hermaphrodite plants and it is well worth making sure you have enough. what space are you working with? how many plants do intend on having?

TGA are def a good choice i think. Jillybean and cheesequake would be my choices, they sound fucking serious and i reckon would be fine in the same area as the height + flowering time is pretty similar. Im growing barney's blue chees, royal queen shining silver haze and amnesia haze right now and they're looking pretty good so far and haven't been a challenge to grow. click on my sig if you wana see my grow.

Hope that was of some use and happy growing!

yes 6500 K veging 3000 K blooming, one of each will work too throughout the growing. 2 tubes won't support more than dwarf plants
You could use that lght for veging seedlings and clones to respectable size but not flowering.
I've grown the Jillybean recomended already and will give it my top choice too as beginer strain (it's also my personal fav of all strains I've grown)

I jumped the gun & went with 2010 high times winner tangerine dream & one of the most rare & famous strains of weed pineapple express. I couldnt resist the double fruit.
Now I think i'll just use the lights untill the end of the veg cycle & then get proper ones next.
Do you think i could get away with buying another blooms bulb & using both of them @ the same time? if not wat light do you recommend i can use using the same light fixture.
I've grown my own herbs, vegs, & flowers when i was younger so i have experience. im not a first time grower, just a first time weed grower. Im also a bio major n know a bit about plants & feel comfortable growing from like 4-6 for the first round.
Also what do you think about the rest of the equiptment that was included in the grow kit?

Hey man, I'd get at least two more bloom bulbs but I reckon more would be better. I'm sure you know this but light is one of, if not THE most important factors when it comes to growing quality bud so it is really really worth spending a little, or even a lot more as you will always make more than your money back. It is a good idea to use a blue spectrum bulb alongside red ones during flowering. You can definitely do the whole grow using cfl's but personally I prefer to use HPS, so that's what i'd recommend. What size area are you working with btw? In a small space cfl's make a lot more sense. Growing 6 plants isn't really any harder than growing 2 so it's a good idea to fill your space to capacity and get the most out of your kit. I'm in the middle of my 1st grow and I started with 9 plants and 5 different strains (although i wouldn't recommend having lots of strains). your picks sound very nice, but make sure the two strains are of a roughly similar height.

I'm not trying to jack your thread, but if you click on my signature at the bottom of the post then you can see my current grow which may help with some queries, but please don't hesitate to ask questions.

Can't really think of anything else to say and i'm hungover so over and out.

peace

Thanks for your help. I'm going to look over your thread for help. I have an emptied out bed room, so i have more than enough space. with the lights they gave, i go a broucher for htg supply lights and i can get a 400w hps w/ high output 400w hps bulb for like $120 do you think thats a good deal?

no worries mate, that's what forums are for right? i got a 600 W hps with bulb + ballast for about 110 euros i think, but I dunno things might be differently priced where you are. I would seriously advise getting a 600W over a 400 seeing as you have plenty of space. like i said, the extra cost will be paid off and you can put more plants under it which might be something to think about. More plants is always more fun i think. If you get an HID light I would def recommend getting an adjust-a-wing + superspreader, or at least the superspreader. The spreader allows you to put the light way way closer to the plants, which is very beneficial.

Btw I'd look about on the web for a light, you might find a better deal.
