Pressure Cooker, is this one gonna be loud?

Um, why would it matter?

Just curious.

And that one will sound like most any other PC, hissing a little and whatnot. And that setup can be had cheap on Craigslist if you are just going to use it for sterilization purposes.

Cause I don't want a loud ass pressure cooker.

But thanks, I can do with the hissing, I just didn't know if it was one of those "rocker" ones, never seen one and didn't know what to look for.

You can make them as loud as you want, want louder, turn up the heat, want quieter, dial it down.

Better idea; if you have a Bed Bath and Beyond near you, go to their web-site and sign up for their newsletter. You'll get a coupon to get 25% off of ANY item in the store. Print it, go get your 23qt Presto there for around $80

And as canndo said; the noise level is going to be based upon the heat - if the heat on the burner is causing your pressure cooker to build pressure past 15 PSI, your PC is going to make a lot of noise from the pressure regulator bouncing everywhere. If you're keeping it under 15 PSI, you're not going to get much of any noise. Right around 15 PSI you're going to get a slight whistle.

Having lived with that noise for many hundreds if not thousands of hours, I find that it helps me know what is going on in the cooker and helps me keep tabs on it. Some of the more tricky situations is packing 4 well loaded bags of spawn in one cooker. You can't put as much water in there as you should be able to and if you dry out your cooker under heat you have a hell of a mess on your hands so a little attention to the hissing/bobbling sound is a good thing. You get a few minutes warning - when the hissing changes tone, you can still jump up from watching Dog the Bounty hunter in enough time to save your cooker if not your substrate.

Thanks.

I'm using one now that doesn't make a lot of noise, just that little hissing and it's fine for me. The one I have doesn't look like the one above. A friend was telling me they had one that was much louder than the one I have. I'm not sure what the difference would be so I just want to avoid having to exchanges things and all that. Don't exactly know what to look for.

You use popcorn, right canndo? Is it normal for the kernels that have mycelium growing on them to get a little darker? The growth seems to be going well, but I'm worried that's a sign they're drying out...? My last batch was fine, but they didn't do this.

Fuck, I'm pretty sure they're drying out.

I took a closer look and it's kinda just growing on the outside of the kernels.

Damn shame.
