"This led me to a hypothesis about Hawaii: that just about any stock grown in Hawaii will turn out to be of unique and relatively high quality. Hawaii just happens to be one of those special places, I suppose." This is from here http://www.cannabisculture.com/content/strains-yesteryear wrote by dj short.
The reason Hawaii is special is mainly due to the very high uv rays, we are at 21 deg N. Our winter sun is hotter than most of the main land summer Sun. Higher uv = higher potency. There is no bad cannabis grown in Hawaii.

everything is a trade off... in n. il the grow season is shorter then lets say Victorville ca. but the soil here is like the best in the world... Hawaii has real good volcanic soil to with a super long grow season {u can grow outside in Hawaii whenever} but the sun isn't up has much has other places and the humidity is super high I would imagine

I wish we had the mild, boring weather during the growing season, like you Cali growers have, here in the TN Valley along lat 36, aka, the Mason-Dixon Line. It's dry and hot AF all summer, with sweltering hot temps, but along late August/early September the rains start, with their stormy winds and continued humidity. It's tough to grow thick, dense nugs here to full ripeness and they never seem to have that bag appeal like Cali weed, as they have a darker, almost tanned look and seem to be woolier, as far as a high leaf to calyx mix. Still, perfect weather here to grow out the right strains.

BTW, I've seen some beautiful old school skunk grew out local here 25 years ago and hope if I get these Sweet Skunk seeds from Peak they are similar.

Its as flat as it can be where I live here at elevation 500 ft above sea level. Nowhere close to Appalachia, lol. Think more like Mississippi River Delta, but a little further north. We have a natural 6-7 ph, rich and loamy soil, growing a LOT of tobacco, wheat, corn and beans here and when it was legal, hemp.

[h=2]Mollisols[/h]
  • One of the most common soil orders in Illinois is mollisols. Mollisols are the type of soil generally found underneath grassland areas. Approximately 45 percent of Illinois' land mass is composed of mollisols soil. Aquolls and udolls are the two suborders of mollisols usually found in Illinois. The wet mollisols soil is aquolls, which support the growth of vegetation, grass and sedges. Northern and central Illinois are where most of the state's mollisols are found.
