Pro Mix help

I've been selling and growing with Pro-Mix for over 30 years........Sunshine mix is the west coast product, Premier Pro-Mix is east coast.
Retail I pay around $35-$39 for a 3.8 cu. ft. bale.........this fills around 11-12 4 gallon pots. It comes with a fertilizer charge that should last around 10 days or so for seed starting. I always add additional lime, around 2+ cups of dolomite lime and additional perlite. I would highly recommend it.
The Pro-mix is fairly flexible, but since the pH tends to rise in the soil over time, it's best to stay low, around 6.2-6.3 pH with anything that goes into the pots. I've gone up to 6.5 pH with no issues- I would not go above that number. I let the very tops of the soil dry before watering and it's probably best NOT to let the soil dry completely out. The extra perlite helps the water drain well and stops the soil from compacting, which it will normally do over time. I also add Cal/Mag to every watering, between 5ml -10 ml depending on the plants needs.
Bottom line, it's a very forgiving product which you can push hard and still receive good results. If you use crappy and or/cheap ferts, you need to flush often so they don't build up in the soil. I use Botanicare Pure Blend Pro, which is mostly organic, and I never see fertilizer burn, nor do i ever flush except with plain water the last 10 days or so.

only thing about that stuff is u gotta add 12 dollar bag of perlite for it to drain.but it works great out doors

I just tried emailing the northeast rep,email no longer valid going straight to berger now.to good to be true on the price
still cheaper then me XD living on island + expensive rent/cost of living is no beuno. i think our taxes were just raised again i know they are raised/will be due to the state making us pay for a rail way system that nobody will use on my island but i think they are raising it further because of the actual cost to build it. sooner or later though this will help drive legalization for recreational use. tons of people here are already struggling to pay for rent.
Home Depot sells the LARGE perlite bags.....you can get 4 cu. ft. for around $34- this would last me at least 3 crops, maybe 4. Look for the chunky perlite, it does a better job of keeping the soil loose.

In my experience, I prefer pro mix hp to bx. Bx has vermiculite in it and I didn’t like it.
Hp has no nutrients. I would alternate feed, water, feed etc.
When the roots fill the pots and things are running at optimum, the pots dry out in 3 days like clockwork.
I also feed at 6.3 and add extra cal/mg

When I used Pro Mix I also used HP. High Porosity.

The bags of that promix I use already has a lot of pearlite in it already. It's actually a little too light in my opinion so I always add some composted cow manure to it.

yea man this shit is crazy i bought the bale of HP and jfc it's way too much soil for me $70 but that shit will last me maybe 2-3 grows easily potting up from solo cups to 3gals to 5gals had more then half the bag left after transplanting into 3gals fluffiest medium i used so far and literally holds a shit load of water. watered the 3 3gals it easily took 1gal where as my 2 5gal flowering pots in the roots organic can't even handle 1gal of water without a bunch of run off regardless how slow i water. even right out the bag it can't handle a lot.
i tried not to over water it because my plants are stressed due to cat fucking chewing them up today and mauling the shit out of all 3 of them so idk how they will handle anymore but i could of possibly gone 2 gals easily for 3 3gals for now. right out the bag it felt moist as usual not damp but not bone dry. might just keep watering 1 gal less water but more days i have to water.
so far im loving this pro mix though something what i've been looking for. holds more water so i don't feel like im wasting money via nutrients running right through the pots like diarrhea but not as compacted as what i was previously using still airy. maybe now my plants will look better and grow more vigorously
