Probability of Twins in MJ seeds

Trying to collect some decent data so we can get a rough estimate of the probability of twins occurring from seed.

Ill start

500 - 750 seeds grown

only 1 twin (bubblegum-serious seeds).

Anyone else? Please give the total number of seeds germinated and the number of twins observed. Even if you have never observed twins your numbers are important.

i just had twins with my DNA L.A Woman freebie from attitude. one single seed germinating. for some reason ..maybe it has to do with genetics ..but i also felt like i had the soil a bit too fluffy and exposed the root to light so it sprouted two heads... im a noob .. just my opinion ..It was a huge seed btw.

I don't know about decent "data", but I have germinated about 100 seeds in my day (good seed from breeders, not bag seed) and have just gotten my first twin. It was from Mandala's Safari Mix. I'm freakin out! why is this?! what happens if i clone this or breed with it? will these characteristics carry over? Pics coming real soon...

I was outta the loop for a while.... Nice pics JoeyC. Twins seem to be pretty rare in cannabis from what ive read since I posted this. i would guess the odds of twins from seed are around 500:1 - any other guesses?

So Far heres the count -

JoeyC - 1/100
Hymem - 1/750
ben Danklin - 3/30
high 420 - 1/10
OGArrow - 1/50

Total - 7/940

Of course people that have not sprouted twins are less likely to report anything so im assuming twins are more rare than the numbers show so far. Anyone out there grow a larger number of seeds and never have twins?

out of a pack of 10 seeds i did have one set of "twins" off a mandala satori. it might be important to note that i grew 3 last april and the other 7 i planted just over a month ago. I thought it was interesting that joeyc had the same thing from mandala, even if it was a diff strain. i'm not sure where but i thought i saw someone else mention they had a mandala twin on a different thread. mine is actually 2 weeks into flower as we speak. the smaller twin died off after 2 weeks. I wonder if it's a more frequent occurance nowadays or if we just have more access to people who have seen this...

Total Head - Many Breeders have choice genetic material they use to create many of their hybrids. Theres a chance that the breeder stock Mandala is using might be genetically prone to twins. Its something to investigate further. Thanks for the Data.

I actually got a twin from bagseed. Most of the seeds I had (18 in all) did not germinate; but I finally got a few to germ and what surprised me was that one pot that had 3 planted seeds actually sprouted 4 sprouts. The twins' stalks were really close together (less than 1mm) when they came up, but since only 3 sprouts came up originally, i thought one of the seeds had somehow shifted closer to another with watering. Then a 4th one came up almost a week later, making me conclude that the 2 close stalks were both from 1 seed. Still growing that twin now.

I think the jackpot in my twin turned out to be the root system. The plant is the most vigorous one even though her sister died less than 2 weeks after sprout. It actually seemed to jumpstart her growth. I'm thinking that it might be like siamese twins in people. depending on what "organs" they share they might get to utilize certain things and certain processes might function as if there are two plants and others might not. the only thing weird about the way the plant grew was when it was a baby the second set of 3 bladed fan leaves grew in a clump formation and when they got bigger they remained all scrunched and curled looking but still green. None of the branches displayed this trait. But she is a beast especially considering she only vegged for 32 days, 12 of which her sister was siphoning off the root system.
