Lawyer up isn't cheap but if your record is clean up to now, I would hire one if I could but then U are going to have to pay a fine and court costs, thats ? If U have the money for a lawyer, least talk with a few local ones, usually the first call/meeting with them is free. Lots depends where this happen at, good luck

You first time in court is a pre trail conference. All you will do is plead guilty or not guilty. The prosecutor will give you an ideas of what's going down.
If you don't like it ask for a continuance to seek legal counsel.

A cop lied on a report and charged me with a felony. The DA asked if I would take a plea. I said no and waived my right to pre trail and straight to the grand jury. The charges were dropped.
You can waive your right to pretrial straight to grand jury.
If offered a plea ask the DA what they think if you waived it. Feel them out.
DA will lie. They offer a plea and tell you if you don't take they will seek the max. Don't fall for the bs.
Always file for motion of discovery. It will let you know what kind of case they have.
Make it hard for them and they might move on.
If your on the outside of jail for a charge take advantage of if. Stall, stall, stall.

First offense it pays to keep your record as clean as possible--U be thankful of that years from now. A lawyer might get the charge changed to like littering, IDK, I'm not a lawyer. U want to plea to a civil infarction, what is not a crime, that all I know.
