Problems with res algae and scum

So, I am running BB's and have a main resivoir setup for topping off my buckets when needed. However, I'm running into issues with the res water turning really gross and nasty smelling. I don't know which ingredient it is thats causing the problem, or if it might just be temperature.
So...

I have a 20 gal res with:
Liquid Karma
FF Grow Big
Molasses for sweetner
FF Cha Ching

Anybody familiar with these? and if so, could it be because of the Liquid Karmas live micro neuts that has gone bad or out of control???? I'm wondering what I should do to fix this nastiness

Thank you in advance!!! :-P

I am using liquid Karma and General Organics to pre charge my coco chips and I let them marinate in bubble buckets with an air stone and I am getting a white creamy film in the water. You are probably right its from the Karma. mine doesnt stink at all.

Thank you for that... I've had the bottle for about 5 months or so and it has NOT been kept in a dark cool place. The molasses is fairly new.
But, yes, mine smells horrible! Only had it in the res for a couple days and it turned on me... this is the second time (res change) this happened to me so quickly! And at the cost of Cha Ching, I HATE throwing all those neuts away!!!! >:$

yeah I'm running House and Garden nutes in my res and I even get that white film in my res water but I never added Karma or Cal/Mag to the reservoir so my guess is its from the Karma thats absorbed in the coco.

Hey dude here's what my buddy says and he's a expert grower in my book..

Yep it's microbial digestion and it's more than likely from organic matter decomposing in the rez. ie your Liquid Karma.
Change the rez out with fresh solution and take off the air stones. Use an aquarium air line suction cup to hold the air line down at the bottom of the rez. Then adjust your air pump so it bubbles slow large bubbles instead a rapid shower of fine bubbles. That should make it so the microbial digestion does not happen.
You should'nt need the LK after the seedling or early veg stage so if you want to cut it you wont be hurting your plants

i bought a product at home depot in the pond section called algeacide, 5 drops kills everything in 10 gal res. i would assume though that it would kill beni's too. 6 bucks for a 250ml bottle. seems to do a better job than h202 and no stress on the girls

if your res smells then you're n the danger zone, probably you will see slimy roots real fast. get some H2O2, i always use it works wonders, and most of all dump your res NOW

Honestly, I've never used Liquid Karma so I cannot make a comment as far as that is concerned. However I use House & Gardens full line minus Shooting Powder, I use AN Overdrive instead, during flower I add in Molasses to sweeten and fatten up the flowering buds. I find the molasses mixed solution is only good for a day or two at most. After that it forms a layer of scum which with bubbles turns into a foamy smelly mess. If I were you, I'd keep an eye on the molasses as well. If ditching the liquid Karma fixes your problem then cool, right on man. However if your still having problems in a few days then ditch the molasses and see what happens. I've changed my feeding schedule to accommodate the molasses but like I said the solution is only good for a day or two at best. Good luck man.

I ditch the liquid Karma after the first 2 weeks anyways its just used as a pre charge for my medium.

I don't use a resevoir per se but if I did I would line it with a heavy duty trash bag before fillng it and change it out with every nute change. You could recycle them after cleaning or drying them out heck you could even use bothe sides. deff. change your solution it has gone anarobic and will kill your plants sure

Thank you for your input!! I just got done cleaning out the res and making sure (via bleach) that it was absolutely clean of any bacteria that may have been in the plastic. I replaced the Liquid Karma with another like ingredient .... we'll see how that goes!!! Just did that last night and so far (crossing fingers one day later) so good.... I'll keep you all posted! Thanks again for all your input!
