Problems with rockwool seedlings. please help!

Hey everyone. So this is my second grown and my first time with rockwool and my baby's just look sad. There under 600w in 1.5 inch roockwool in net pots. Doing hydroton flood and drain (not flooding yet still hand water). Lights on temps are 75-80, lights off droped to 55 one night so I switched to 24/7 lights on for now. So they were doing great for about a week but then they all got all droopy and sad looking. Just watering for now no nutes. There about 2 weeks now. And a week ago this started. It looks to me like over watering but I thought you couldn't over water rockwool. So can anybody help me? Why so sad. :sad:

You can overwater Rockwool for sure, i do a lot of hydro lettuce in rockwool and when the seedlings are small and not drinking fast they are sensitive to the amount of water in the cubes. that's what it kind of looks like to me but I've never started cannabis in rockwool cubes I'm more fond of peat pellets, and I'd keep them in a humidity dome for 2 or 3 weeks to get them hardy for the flood table. Anywho I'd let those cubes dry out a little more before you water them again and yea they look like the size where they will want some food in rockwool, id start at like 300ppm assuming your tap is around 150. I find Hardy veg plants are usually happy with around 500ppm, maybe 700 on the high side

Roots develop better WITH lights out time!!!!

I use rockwool 3x3 cubes as the base for DWC runs as I LIKE to establish "a" root mass before having it attempt to "reach" for the feed solution after being placed in the expanded clay balls.
I use Root riot cubes and transfer to the treated wool when roots first begin to extend from the Root Riot cubes.

Note: I remove the plastic surrounding the RockWool cube before it goes in the hydroton.

Yea I agree with the lights out, that's when plants uaualy turn energy to growth, but those temps were too much, so I figure a couple more weeks (live in San Diego) and I'll put them back. I picked the lesser of 2 evils :/

Put a dome over them to help with the RH....something clear to cover.
30 is low for seedlings,,,,shouldn't be the whole problem.
Like I said,,establish a root before the trans.

Rockwool starters in whatever shape,,,,wait till roots are starting to grow out to trans.

i would switch to the rapid rooter plugs.....i dont know what it is about rockwool about I had a nearly 90% failure rate with rockwool cubes....when I switch to the plugs it flipped to a 90% success rate so i never went back to rockwool...works for me try it might work better for you.

rapid rooter plugs have hormones and nutes in their presoak and Rockwall does not

People growing in coco have the same issues if they don`t use a weak start feed at or before germination or set up their coco or feed after a few days or the 1st week

Plants that are being driven to grow fast coco or rockwall normally need feeding a lot earlier then any type of soil even light mix I mean come to think of it even vermiculite and perlite start off holding more nutes then rockwall or coco do

Kitty, rockwool can be extremely alkaline. Did you soak them in ph adjusted water prior?
Also, 600w is intense for young seedlings.... even at a couple ft away.
