producing regular seeds............got a few questions..............

ok i dont want to make a new strain just some regular seeds on the same strain, make sense?

my question is if i get a male and say 2 females of the same strain with qualities i like (taste, yield, etc) and put them in their own tent, and let em grow out, will the males pollinate the females by itself, i believe its called open pollination? or do i have to seperate the pollen and rub it on the female?

basically looking on some general info on making regular beans as backups, NOT fems, i looked into that and id rather just do a regular male/female pollination

also for the people who've done this, how many seeds could a regualer ole indoor plant produce, say 2-3 ft? thanks for any help

-Pollinating the same strain with itself could potentially lead to weaker plants from the seeds. Loss of potency & yeild. You'd be better off IMO crossing with something else that shows desirable traits.
-If you allow the male to pollinate 2 females you will have no smokable bud off of them...
-3-4' plant... hundreds of seeds

The male should be able to pollinate the females without your help, just keep them pretty close. I plan on doing some breeding next year; both line-breeding and out-crossing.

Open pollination, yes. Has worked fine for thousands of years.

Plenty of seeds, just allow 4-5 weeks for the seeds to mature on the plant.

1sttimaguy ... "No smokeable bud"??? That is so far from correct it's laughable. You've never bought weed with seeds in it that got you high? Many 'old school' growers, me included, will pollinate a branch in the belief that a seeded plant is more potent. No proof, but experience seems to bear this out.

the best and easiest way to make seeds, but still end up with a harvest, is to just keep the male plant and let him grow out, but separate him from the ladies, anyway let him grow out, and when he starts to drop pollen then collect it and then just rub a little on one female plant of your choice, or whatever...but please remember that if pollen gets on the hairy new bud parts it will turn them into seeds...One branch can have hundreds of seeds, so don't overdo it, and don't leave them to do it themselves, or you end up with 1000 seeds and no smoke at all...2 bowl packs of calyx husks. Sucks...just did this to myself all over again nearly...Sometimes if I really really like a male, I might keep giving

You are going to create F2 seeds. Many people do this to keep the genetics in case they lose their plants.
Just put a fan in the tent, it will blow the polllen everywhere.
I like to dust my girls with pollen when they have 5 weeks left until harvest.

In the case where he pollinates 2 females entirely there will be very little enjoyable bud.

I've smoked bud with seeds, you've smoked bud with seeds, I'd be surprised if more than a few said they hadn't... I'm not talking about a few seeds in a bag, I'm talking about a bag full of seeds surrounded by split calyxs. You said it yourself, you pollinate a branch not an entire plant. That is what will presumably result if the OP leaves 2 females in a small tent with a male and a fan...

Would you pollinate an entire plant and expect a yield of non-PITA product?

EDIT: I too would be interested in any documentation in the effect of pollination on potency.

Not a bit that I'm aware of or feel like looking up. Just observation and experience and seems to work for me.

What *I* do for breeding seeds is, when the male is ready I'll put a few rooted clones next to it and pollinate the pre flowers on the clones. The male is killed and the clones flowered till the seeds are ripe. Not interested in buds/smoke, so they are harvested early. Still, some decent smoke for such an early chop. I get between 10-20 seeds/clone which is plenty for my purposes'. I'm in the middle of the F3 crop right now.

Aww man...I had a reg pack of TGA end up all being male...and I have to stop growing...so I wanted to make sure that I had some sort of cross of all my fave strains that I haven't crossed with anything yet, and I may have overdone it...I still got some smoke, but I literally have possibly thousands of seeds...but definitely hundreds. I have never noticed the potency of the resulting pot to be less, just that there is less of the same strength than there would have been sans seeds.

I try to seed plants around the 3rd week of flower on an 8 week strain...any later than that and the seeds won't be ready when the smoke is...but if you pollinate too soon then the seeds are ready and start to drop off into your soil before the smoke is done...either way I can't condone leaving a female and male together...the one time I did this I literally had no smoke...just the seeds...I mean I like seeds, but I don't need 4,000...Lol. I can always use more smoke..and if you use a tiny paintbrush or something and bag up the branch you can better localize the pollen...I just willy nilly use my finger and touch it in the pollen and then go touch the plant(s) to be pollinated. which usually gives me 50 or so seeds per plant...the rest being product for me...and that is perfect..but this time I got excited/impatient? and kept with the finger in pollen-finger to plant routine and over pollinated all the plants. It's alright though...I have a friend that is going to grow for me...they are going to take all my stuff, and I will show them what to do and how to do it...give them all the seeds and cuttings and tents and lights and pumps and pots and soil/coco to start and then they can do whatever with the excess...I just need my smoke. Anyway...when I start back I will have lots of seeds and what not to start with...I still have some in breeder's packs I haven't gotten to start...but one day..one day.

Flower the male 2-3 wks after the female.
