ProMix + water confusion

With one rocky grow under my belt I am trying to learn more to help tweak my production into a finer quality result but am still unclear about some facts about water PPM, PH and ProMix. Based on the article I have posted below, would it be best to start with either distilled or RO water and increase the PPM using additives (CAL MAG + nutes)? The consensus I have gathered through reading many opinions regarding pH is to aim between 5.8-6.2... but with hard water coming out of my tap I realized that I need to also understand how the dissolved solids will affect my nutrient uptake and plants well being... so when using a soil-less media like ProMix what would be the best water to use?

Thanks for any input that can be provided!

RO water is amazing, use it :) PH ranges should be between 5.5 and 6.2, with 5.8 being the happy medium. i find, however, with hydroponics, 5.5-5.8 is the best range. i never go higher.

now, i dont use PPM, i use EC, so i cant really comment, however go by the guides on the bottle for how much to use, then check that PPM against what you have been using. see how your plants react as well, they will soon tell you if something is wrong. i have very hard water where i am, and ever since using RO, i get a lot better smoke and a lot healthier plants. best investment i have made. some people use calmag or whatever it is, i personally dont use anything other than the nutes, and it works fine for me. find what works well for you.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Green Troll... would using bottled distilled water provide the same benefits as RO water if one doesn't have a RO system?

never used it but i think it is much the same, research into it though. the process of distilling sounds like it has the same end result as RO.

and i know what calmag is, just never used it. calmag seems to be a brand name or something, we don't have it here, not that i have seen anyway. but my plants show no deficiencies in calcium or magnesium so i don't use it. i always let my plants let me know what they need :) pretty sure the RO process is stripping them out of my water, as the EC is 0.02 before any adjustments, so i guess it has enough in the nutes i feed it.

if it ain't broke, don't fix it :D

Calmag is just name of a product. I use mag-I-cal. Same shit. Magnesium iron. Calcium. It's good for deficiency it's good for helping save root bound plants. I use it to bump up N. I use budda grow and bloom from roots organic. I ran a few cycles of Pineapple Express and bumped the N up plants loved it.
