hi all

a question on heated propagators ,I bought a heated propagator 22w ,
it says the Sealed Heating Unit Insulation beneath the carbon heating mat maintains compost temperature at 15-20 degrees (60-70 F).

I place my new cuttings I took in this propagator and just placed them in there rootriot tray ,but not laid a layer of compost or any soil in the bottom propagator .

I have placed a layer off clay pebbles in the bottom of the propagator .and just sat cuttings on them so there not right sat on the bottom .I sprayed the dome and just sprayed the riot blocks /not the cutting s ,all cuttings have died .

could the temp be to high ? do I really need to have the propagator switched on ??? could I get results from having it switched off ???

thanks

The same happened to me with my heated prop. Now i just put the cuts into the prop(switched off),spray the dome everyday with vents fully closed I usually only lose 1 or 2 outta 10

I think you're making this a little too hard. Oasis cubes or Rockwool are great mediums for cuttings, I've never used the root riot trays. I like Oasis cubes because they're easy; no preparation other than wetting them down with some clone solution mixed in water. Take your cutting, dip, plug, and leave it.
So did your cuttings root in the propagator, and you then put them in the root riot tray? or did you take them, put them in the propagator and then change mediums? If you did the latter then that's your problem. Just leave them alone until they root, no matter how you're cloning.
I hardly ever have clones die on me, so long as they aren't stressed or have ph problems they're fine.
