Pro's and Con's of smoking bug shit.

No pros here at all LOL. Just a way to start a thread. Problems are always CONS. Anyone that has grown for any amount of time has ran into things they don't like or want. Some bad, some REALLY bad. Thank god I only had a bad problem this time. I have yet to have something so bad that I can not smoke the weed. I am sure it will happen some day.

Till then I will smoke what I get. This time it is Thrips. I miss identified them as a mite at first. That gave them a good foot hold in my flowering plants. I decided not to spray them. Shit is better than chemicals. I didn't think it would be quite so bad but I stand by that it. I have to admit it is a bit disgusting seeing those little bitches crawling around on the paper I trim on. If I can see them near the buds then they have shit there. Disgusting yes. Disgusting enough to throw this weed out? Not a chance.

I will wash the buds the best I can before drying. After that I am going to count on "Short Term Memory Loss" to carry me through the end of these buds. I was also able to wash Powdery Mildew off to the point I would smoke the buds. Bug shit does't seem any worse.

Bud washing has turned out to be one of the best new ideas that has come up in the new grow environment. Anyone have other tricks for saving duds?

I have heard of some. Nothing I knew enough about to try on buds I needed. I have all those controls in place now and as far as I know, all the thrips are gone except for the last couple flowered plants.

Yes. I had to learn that trick a few years back when I had powdery mildew. The amount of dirt and dust washed off turned me into a true believer in washing. I just added a stop to the bathtub for rinsing. I just swish around the trimmed branches in a bucket of water then put them back onto the same cloths hanger I had them on. After a drip dry they go into the drying tent.

They say it improves flavor. I can't say I agree with that or not. I can say, after seeing the water, there was a need to wash them. What few trichomes that break off are insignificant. You just need to make sure the water is not to warm or cold. Room temperature water works best from what I have seen. I let mine sit out over night to be sure. We have fairly cold water from the tap here.

Depending how late into flower you were you could have used spinosad

Its approved for tobacco crops and breaksdown under UV light.

It is essentially just a bacterium and is OMRI

I had a thrip problem I caught early around week 3 and sprayed and buds came out fine.

Just FYI in case you run into this issue again.

Thanks firsttimeARE I will look into it. A guy can't never have enough backup plans.

Thank god I don't eat out much LMAO.... Even if people don't eat out much, they eat a lot of stuff they would rather not know about. Surprising the amount of acceptable foreign products allowed in food.

I hear they check dispensary weed pretty close. That may mean there is less bug shit in their weed then in our food. LMAO
