Provide ID for cops in MI?

i know if you get pulled over u have to show the cops ID, but do u have to show ID if you are chilling in your car and the cops cant smell smoke or see anything suspicious?

the laws may differ depending on state, so could someone please post a link that has the information specifically for MICHIGAN? i cant find anything:cry:

If your not on your own property (even then I think they can get you if the keys are on you or in the vehicle) they can assume your are in control of it (operating...South Dakota USA is a state that follows that logic) and request a sobriety test. That can cause a bad chain of events.
My brother ran from the cops once, he ran home, got out, and threw his keys on the roof of his house. When the cops caught up, they could not charge him for running as they had no positive visual ID of the driver, he had no keys, and said "some guy he met was driving because he could not and must of ran with the keys."... Yea, not a smart story but it worked at the time.

i'm fairly sure that you need to show id anytime a cop asks for it, regardless of the time or reasoning behind it.. all they have to do is ask for it.. i know that many times they will ask a passenger in a car for id even though they aren't even driving a car that may have been pulled over for a traffic stop in my state..

I live in Eastpointe, MI and we had a family party and my cousin went to move his car from the driveway to the street, mind you he had a few beers in him. And as soon as he got in the car a eastpointe officer came upto the car and instantly asked for id and demanded a sobriety test. He got fucked and blew like a .09 or something stupid and the cops took him to jail, said he was drunk driving and towed his car away.

I will search for it, ive read a statute before that said its required to have i.d on you at all times and you must present it to any officer that request to see it.

Fuck the police.

i dont get what your asking. do you mean sitting in your car in your driveway or something? why would you just be sitting in your car and where are talking about doing this? are you asking if you were smoking or jsut have stuff on you or had been drinking? if you are just "chilling" in your car you should just chill in your house or outside so your not trapped looking suspicious just parked in a car.

and just a note on dui . where i live if you pass out drunk in your car they can charge you with dui if you have your keys with you even if they are not in ignition you have to hide your key outside the vehicle

The only things you are legally obligated to tell a police officer is who you are and where you live. Which is giving them your id.

The Law in the USA is if a Law Enforcement Officer asks for ID you have to provide it no matter where you might be.

I had a knock at my door from 2 police officers who identified themselves and then they asked me for ID.

They was looking for my roommate who was not home at the time.
