Pumping Air Into Soil Concept. Will It Work Guys?

Everyone says roots need oxygen and so on and so forth. So I came up with this idea Im in the middle of putting together to see how it works and if it will increase the yield.

18 Gallon Rubbermaid Containers
Organic Soil mix With 40% Perlite.
Drill 1" holes on the side of the containers
Insert 1" pvc in each hole that has hundreds of small holes drilled through it so the air can pump into the soil.
Connect al the pvc in the containers to one main pvc
Connect the main pvc to a small air compressor attached to a timer
Im not sure how often to pump air but im thinking 15 minutes every 3 hours

Tell me what you think guys and if I should fix add or take away anything. And Sorry for the crappy picture but I think you get the point.

Um, for scientific purposes, sure, why not give it a go. In reality, it's probably been tried and nixed.

My local grow shop sells what they call "air baskets".

It's a simple net pot with air tubing around the rim.

It's connected in a circle using a T piece. That T piece attaches to an air pump feed.

The net pot is then placed into the bottom of your chosen pot upside down.

This creates a pocket of air the size of the net pot.

They swear by them.

Personally I haven't tried them.

Possibly tried and nixed but I haven't seen any reports on it, so I figured why not give it a go. 1/2 with the air pump and half without and see if there is a difference. I may be onto something here

Never heard of them but I will check them out.

Ive actually done this with a tomato plant , I didnt see any major growth increase and what happens over time your soil becomes compact , just my little xp with air injection.

I definitely will man and I will post results here.

Here is a link which made me want to try.

Definitely prevent overwatering. Also Im sure Im gonna need to water a lot more often

They make them themselves.

Not sure if there is an actual product to buy as such.

The main reason I know about them was one time when I visited by the shop I spent hour with the owner helping him to make them up for an order. A grower had ordered 50 or so of them. Lol.

Pretty cool but I think this is cheaper and a little different Im putting the air directly in the soil.

Also you can add perlite to your medium to increase oxygen, or perhaps using a fabric bag/smartpot.

My opinion, completely unnecessary in a good soil structure with good watering habits. But go for it! Never hurts to try new stuff.

Well if a hydro store recommends them...they must REALLY work! (sarcasm alert!)
