Purchasing Solvents Online

I'll be ordering small amounts of sodium hydroxide (1lb.) and dichloromethane (2 liters). I've thoroughly read through MSDS sheets and a bunch of forums about these products. Both of these would be ordered maybe once a month tops. I'm using a proxy server, alternate ebay alias for ordering, walmart gift/cash card to pay for, and using a friends house address in a different city to ship it to. I thought about shipping them both to separate addresses. Anyone have any advice or buy these products on the regular? More precaution advice is always good.

Sodium hydroxide is also a grill cleaner in restaurants I think..id have to took at the bottle of cleaner at the restaurant but I think that's the main thing in it..

NaOH is also used in soap production and drain cleaning I believe. And apparently dichloromethane is useful in paint stripping and a degreaser so perfect combo with rory's grill cleaner use for NaOH. I don't know for certain but I don't think either chem is on the DEA watch list. NaOH maybe, but that is still sold at many stores I think.

Ya, you just make soap every other month and the hydroxide is for a cleaning project in the garage...trying to get that damn paint off the concrete....

I would say he's doing some type of extraction

-- One thing that may be a problem , is the grades and purity levels of the chems .

You need a story for neither. especialy for those on eBay. They are too common no worries.

Make sure you know their uses but lye and solvent are really commonly used. I'm assuming from your icon this is for DMT, any reason for going for DCM as the solvent? If you're looking for a full spectrum extract d-limonene is food safe and toluene is less toxic than DCM. Or you could use naphtha or a light alkane like hexane or heptane and get white DMT.

Toluene is rather hard to get nowadays due to its use in making TNT. I normaly use hexane or xylene for extractions. When ordering hexane online I just say its for making food extract oils. Xylene on the other hand is on the shelf at lowes and home depot.

That's some bullshit. Trinitrating toluene is harder than making many more powerful explosives.
I don't like the smell of xylene. It just bugs me for some reason.

I agree that its ridiculous. I used to make my own unleaded race fuel for my track car and purchased a 5 gallon drum of toluene almost every month. When ordering it I explained exactly what it was being used for, I also shared my recipe openly on a car forum. After purchasing about 40 gallons total I received a letter from the chemical company explaining that If I continued ordering toluene I would raise a red flag. I attempted to swap vendors, once again explaining that I was making off road fuel. I was informed that the ATF was cracking down and I would need a permit to buy toluene. Now, they could have been trying to scare me... but I switched to xlyene after that. I also agree that xylene stinks compared to the sweet smell of toluene.

The xylene was harder to blend and required a lubricant additive that was expensive. It was no longer cost effective to make my own so I started buying VP fuel.

That left me with a few gallons of xylene that I used for a few san pedro cacti extractions. The extractions failed due to my lack of experience, but the xylene worked fine in the sep funnel. I used hexane for making bud oil since it evaporates very clean. Its actually used to make garlic oil commercially.

Maybe you can occasionally buy a gallon of toluene here and there, but the frown on a 5 gallon purchase.

Man fuck the ATF! They let guns cross the Mexican border but they restrict shit like this.
Hexane is a great extraction solvent. Didn't realize it was used for food oil extractions. I want a reclaiming still or a closed loop system for extractions.

Guys, there are three watch lists, not two.

There is one that requires DEA permission
There is one that requires DEA notification due to the size of the purchases or the combinations of purchases (If you ever purchase more than a single item in a list of chemicals needed for a specific drug from the same place - you are an idiot)
And there is another list, this one leaves it to the companies themselves. With a little gotcha. If the chemicals that company sent to a person are ever found to have been used for the manufacture of a controled substance - the company pays a fine. It is a very good way of contoling chemicals that are both commonly used for benign purposes and also commonly used for , er, nefarious reasons. When i reviewed the lists, they had things like hydrocholoric acid on the list - something you can get at any hardware or pools supply store. Acetone is a big one as we all know, but it is the most commonly used solvent for all sorts of glue, dichloromethane is a platic binder (I think).

The chemicals you are looking for can all be purchased online. Ebay is your safest bet and there are always more than one vendor for each of the products you require. Wasn't lye one of them? forgodsake, you can get pounds of it on ebay every month of the rest of your life without a problem.

If you need to purchase something that is less common, look for places that charge outrageous prices for these substances. Think for a moment, they are making that money by keeping their mouths shut - PAY the price. find local vendors and make friends with them, know your shit but don't oversell yourself, become a regular and you will be fine.

Don't by so regularly - that is always a bad deal, get a larger supply and wait, off days, off months, be patient.

Get friends to purchase these things for you at odd times - assure them there will be no problem.

if you can find some businesses that are willing to help you, that always is a plus. Companies don't like to ship chemicals to residential addresses, especially regularly.

If you intend to do this sort of work - stock pile, begin now, purchase small amounts from a variety of vendors and check reactions from each vendor.

And what you are looking for is not really a problem unless you purchase both of them at the same time. No - I don't make soap, why would I buy lye but no glycerine? but I DO cure olives, and i get a lot of olives in October - so that is when I get my lye, 50 lbs at a time. and yes, I really really do cure my own olives, last year about 200 lbs.

I also make biodeisel, I can get 20 lb bags of peletized lye delivered any day with never any questions asked.

Amazon sells xylene and ebay sells dcm, in any amount. Amazon will not "report" purchases as everything is automated. Five friends making purchases at varying times and rotations will get you where you want to go.

Only the items on the primary watch list, the things like ergotamine and anthranilic acid and anyhdrous acetic acid - direct precursors are watched like a hawk, even in small amounts, although it can be done with a good story AND a business front. The rest? unless you are getting 55 gallon drums, you don't have to worry yourself.

I've read all the common uses for both products so thanks everyone for your replies. The brother living at the first shipping house knows the hydrox is for making soap and no more. My roommate went to pharmacy school and said he used DCM in a lot of the class labs so he's familiar with it. I don't like the naptha route because of the volatility and the smell i hear it gives off. I live pretty close quarters to my neighbors.. although its winter I want to have all my basis covered. I have a large garage but we are planning on using the kitchen. d-lime sounds interesting I will have to read up on it, thanks MrE and everyone. Bringing the dreamsters to my area to start the spiritual revival! Peace on

If odor is a concern then limonene is your best bet. It actually smells nice. Not nice for a solvent like many find ethyl acetate (it's typically the favorite solvent smell of many chemists, I hate it but that's another story) but actually nice like oranges. You get a colored product that is a bit different from white DMT made with selective solvents that need some heat (hex/heptane, naptha, pretty much any light aliphatic solvent). You can recrystallize from hexane if you want a white or light yellow product (I prefer it but that's quite probably because I'm fanatical about purity and genuinely dislike taking unknowns).
Good luck opening people's eyes!

Actually glycerin is only added into fancy body soaps

Where I live you cannot buy 99% isoprophyl alcohol on the shelf at any major retail store. So I went to wally world's pharmacy and had to special order the stuff. The lady said I could buy a case (12), but I was somewhat hesitant so I went with 6 16oz bottles. I should be good for a few runs but in the future when I restock should I be worried buying a case or two from wally world? She asked for my name so she could hold it for me when it gets shipped to the store. I gave her my alias.. Paranoid or just safe precaution?
