Hello All,
My babies are about 4 weeks old and I have just recently transplanted them into 5" pots, where they will stay the rest of their wonderful lives. The droopy leaves, im assuming, is due in part by the recent transplant. The only thing concerning me about this is that it has been about four days since theyve been in there new home. Any input on this would be appreciated.
Now my big concern is the lack of growth-of leaves and roots, the very maroon stems on the newer growth (newer because nothing has grown much at all after them), and the tan/yellow/browning tips on the same leaves that are located on the same stems I had just mentioned.
At the beginning I over fertilized them and realized it quite fast and corrected it in time for them to bounce back. But now they are showing the same signs they did when I had over ferted but I do not believe that is the case. I had put a 1/2 tsp with about a gallon and 1/3 of water in the 3 gallon buckets they are in and this is where im at. I changed out the water and replaced it with strictly PHed bottle water to see what happens.
Ventilation is poor so rust settling wouldnt be out the equation, but I am quite new at all of this so I do not have many ideas as to what can be wrong.
Also I am quite concerned about my roots, there are originally 3 plants that are about 4 weeks old and I moved only the two to be safe. The two I had developed red splotches in a small area of the center roots but later disappeared, but now in the same general area they are a dark brown (looking like a build up of something, but I don't believe it would be nutrients since I have been so sparse with them) I am worried that it is Pythium (root rot/damp-off/whatever you want to call it, its all the same), but the issue is that I have kept the water level consistenly about an 1" lower than the net pots since they have started out and have 4" airstones in the bottom of the 3 gallon buckets which should be plenty of oxygen to the roots.
Note that the browning area of roots is at the surface of the water. So i have lower the water level to about 2-2 1/2" below the net pot to see if this helps any.
Now what makes me curious about all of this is that the third plant (that i did not transplant) has an insane root mass compared to the two i transplanted, and are brilliant white, along with continued growth up top. This plant has the same ventilation issues, has been in straight bottled water since birth (besides the first over fert), and the res temp is about 72-73 (whereas the water in the 3 gallon buckets is at a constant 6.
Any suggestions on what this is and how to fix/control it would be greatly appreciated by any and all who can give some input.
