Putting cmh to the test

Following along.
I flower in a 4 x 4 and found a 600w HPS a bit hot in summer. I upgraded to a DE630w CMH. Its cooler- that surprised me. More frost and denser buds. CMH really does bring out the oil.
Be interesting to see how u go and what you think.
Did your 600w have a cooltube?

Small update. The veg area is better than it's been in years. I could be wrong but I'd say thing look better with my cmh than they did with my 1kw mh. Plants that were in 2qt containers are now taller than me in 5g pots and lush as can be.

The flowering area is looking fantastic. I havent noticed any change in nutrient needs so far as cal/mag like other report but that could be because I changed the light halfway through vs the full run. I am getting a little purple earlier than normal and red hairs earlier than normal.

I have 15 days left in the cycle so in 20 days i should have weights in.

and as a fyi, if you are used to this strain under hps, it will finish faster under cmh. i only did 2 of the same strains under hps and then cmh and both finished about 5 days quicker. not sure if that is proof positive but keep your eyes out
Ya I've ran this clone maybe 7 cycles ish under hps. It is looking to be ripening up a little faster but I do still want to take it to 70 at least. I've been wanting to take it closer to 80 under hps but I kept struggling to let it go past 70. Everything is looking healthy and well supported this run so I'm not concerned with mold from buds laying on each other like in past runs.

post the results. i'd betcha that you'll obviously lack the weight but the quality will be definitely 2 steps up from hps.

Will do. Honestly doesnt look much less than from hps. The first half the run being hps got the budsites form and the cmh did just fine letting them continue to fill in.
Time will tell be I think its gonna come close to my 20 oz average. The average watts used based on the portion of time under 1kw hps and 315 cmh will be 700 watts after 70 days.

I'm along for the ride as I'm interested in seeing your results. I actually had a very similar situation as you, and I really love my CMH light. It produced surpisingly thick, dense buds that just really caught me off guard. I swear, if I didn't know better, I'd say I got denser flowers off of my 315w CMH in a 3x3ft grow tent than I did with my 1000w HPS 6.5x6.5ft grow tent. When cooler months roll around, you could always run the 315w cmh along side your 1000w? When winter months roll around, that is. I will say this though, when I moved my two autoflowers out from under the 1000w and under the 315w cmh, I encountered a very very severe cal/mag deficiency. Perhaps it was the bigger, wider spectrum, perhaps it is the UV in the spectrum, but something related to the CMH light triggered my plants to eat a lot more cal/mag.

If the broader spectrum of the CMH is providing better growth efficiency of you plants they will require more nutes especially CaMg since CaMG is a catalyst for nutrient uptake. It also depends on your medium. If you are using coco CaMg is a necessity since coco tends to leech CaMg. Hope your grow goes amazing...

'Cal mag' is calcium nitrate and magnesium nitrate. The nitrate boosts plant growth.

A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing.

I know that I'm seeming to get rust spots while using my CMH lights...could be due to something else that's coincidentally showing symtpoms now, could be due to the increased spectrum. In any event, the rust has subsided with a slightly elevated PH and supplementation of calmag. I'm in hydroponics, so it's not uncommon to need calmag supplementation. It's just rare for me, using Floranova I typically don't need supplements.

Another update: I'm now aprox 10 days from chop but may be able to let them go longer since theres great airflow and the buds are all well supported. The buds have all taken on a nice purple tone that I wouldnt normally see expect one time when i harvested the top of the plant and let the bottom larf go another 3 ish weeks. It never really got good but I wanted to see what happened. Anyways, I'm happy to see the color at day 60 from flip!
The hairs are nearly all darkened but new ones are shooting and the buds are still growing, so I really would like to try and take it to 77 an see.

My results have been so good I'm tempted to try and get others to try running 1kw hps the first half and switching to 315 cmh the second half of flower. Obviously I'd do that AFTER i do a full run under the 315 cmh.

I'm sure you all can tell I'm very impressed and excited with the results I'm getting

I'm on my first 315 CMH grow updating from t5 and cheap led's. I won't be going back to that. The CMH rules. No comparison. This was day 42 flowering on a 65" plant ( never grew sativa before, wasn't prepared for the stretch. Flipped at 16"). The CMH is keeping up pretty well with the height.

Can you post the photo in the thread I cant view photos posted that way :(

So bad news from my corner of the world.
Today's update is a sad one. As I mentioned several posts up the plants under my cmh get some side lighting from hps that comes on a hour earlier and stay on a hour later. The cmh is only on 10 hours) I figured it was enough light it wouldnt be concidered a light leak, but more light dawn and dusk. I guess I was wrong. Today I saw new clusters of hairs and bananas. This clone has tossed bananas is the past, but this is the most I've seen, its normally one or 2 across a 4x4 ish area and I'm seeing small clusters. I cant risk the 5x10 beside it seeding that's around day 30.

In a 24 hour span I went from confident i was going to let it ride another 2 weeks to cutting em down :(
