Quality Versus Quantity

I can't help but notice that everything I read is about maximizing yield, watts per gram. Cervantes book, here, the other ten dozen cannabis website, etc.

But what about quality? I'm talking about potency, taste- connoisseur grade bud. Sure you can blast your crop with huge amounts of HPS lumens and nutes and whatever method for high yield.

So, the point I'm trying to make is: I see some people are using unique methods such as utilizing UV lights to produce more trichomes. Or mixtures of different frequency lights to produce different effects in the plant.

It just seems everyone's preoccupied with yield that there isn't as much interest in potency or 'grade'.

Anyone share the same feeling, or have any preferences? Personally, I'm using a Agrosun Gold Metal Halide hydro setup (250 watt) for a single plant to see what happens. I'm also interested in using some sort of low intensity UV-B lamp.

The Law makes it tough not to maximize the chance you are taking... at least thats the way it is here.
good genetics, hps lights and organics. would like to try hps and led together.

I gotta agree with with what Guyute7 said. I've done quite a bit of reading of quality though it seems with a mixed light spectrum they will be more potent. Something about the blue wave length...

^^ Exactly. See, I have the choice at the moment to either use a 400 watt HPS or a 250 watt AgroSun Gold MH (single plant). The Gold's spectrum is nearly split down the middle so I'm hoping for the best of both worlds- and if it works out quality wise I may not even use HPS again. I'm not a commercial grower so I figure I'd take the risk.

P.S. I've used the Gold for 2+ weeks now of flowering and the buds look nice, wish I had a picture handy.

I'm not comercial either but you best believe I'm getting every last g I can get out of my plants. I personally would stick with the hps for flowering and then trying to supplement the hps with the blue cfls or leds. You could even supplement with the MH as well for even better results.

I have used a hps and a mh 400 for flower with similar strains and the difference was huge! the mixed spectrum may be great, but my best results were with hps. besides, in your case the 400 will definitely be better than the 250 in quality and quanitity guaranteed.

Well, it's a 30 inch tall plant with just one 250W MH. Do you think I can make a major impact on its yield by switching to the 400W HPS? I like quality but hey, I like yield too .

It's actually a 'reverse X-mas tree' shape. One sec, I'll get a photo up.

Edit: I'll start a new thread since this will be a new topic.

Firstly, good quality genetics = good quality bud... so keep that in mind.

Secondly, a healthy plant = good quality bud... high yielding/large plants generally = healthy plant.

So therefore anyone attempting to make their plant as healthy as possible and grow it to its full yielding potential is also allowing their plant for full quality potential.

Thirdly and lastly, good quality bud is greatly determined by the after grow processes (drying and curing)
