Question about Fans and Filters

Hey Guys,

Im gonna be investing and building my first grow tent setup (was growing in the closet and cabinets before and the smell is starting to stink up big time) and wanted to get some answers to fans and ventilation.

First off, I'll be running a 600watt HPS lighting system with a 6" Luxor-like light hood. Will this hood need a heavy duty fan on its own and if it does, does the fan blow out the heated air or suck out the heated air?

Second question, I'll be using a 6" carbon filter so is the filter installed separately to a different fan or does it use the same fan as the one blowing/sucking from the hood?

As well, is the carbon filter installed INSIDE the tent or OUTSIDE the tent? And the fan for the filter, is it installed Inside or Outside the tent?

Basically, how many fans do I need? Just a little confused and wanted to know if there was an easier way to do this.

Specs:

Tent size: L5.0 x W5.0 x H7.0 ft
Number of plants: 3-5

Thanks!

You can do it lots of different ways, the most common would be having the carbon filter inside the tent, then having ducting from your filter to your hood then from your hood to your fan (make sure its sucking) and then to your exhaust. So carbon filter>cooled hood>fan>exhaust. You can also have your carbon filter outside of the tent and blow the air through it but most people wont reccomend it if you can help it because all of the air going through your hood and past your bulb wont be filtered, and the air going through the inside of the filter wont be pre filtered causing your filter to plug faster and have a shorter life

Also, you can run separate fans for the filter and for the light hood, but that is usually done if you need cool air from outside of your room or if you are running multiple air cooled hoods in series. For your grow you should be good with one fan

Wow, thanks for the info! Much appreciated! As for the 'exhaust', is that a separate fan unit or do you mean where the air exits?

Btw, noticed that your from Canada, which part?
