Question about Fertz....

in other words, come onnn maaan! All you're doing is putting the same mixture in another cup..why would it lose concentration?!

I usually fed with whole gallons and had way to much water come out the bottom... so i cut back on the watering and wondered if that would have any affect on how much food they were actually getting.. or as long as the soil was completely drenched that everything is fine.

Um, I water a metered amount everyday. Just enough to get me to lights on the next day.
This increases o2 to the roots. A very important thing.
While watering large amounts can free you up for a cpl days, and it does work, basically...You can negatively effect the soil pH and the needed oxygen to the roots that way.

So...
Does this mean you water with fertz every other watering "as directed" or do you have a little bit in the water, every time?
or do only start the fertz when your plants tell you?
Im just trying to educate myself...

I water everyday. Organic water only plants AND synthetic run plants.... The synthetic run plants get the proper nutrient amount at every watering.
This for the nutrient line of my choice (Botanicare KIND line), at the rates needed by differing strains needs (some normal, some higher N, some less N).
I also use a cpl of my own home made supplements, at my decided for need, rates. Everyday.
The supplements are discontinued at week 6 and I run long, longer than most....I feel 90% of folks run way to short.... It's all how the plant looks to me. Includes trich coloring but, many strains I run. Don't really have ambering trich's... It's a learned thing....put my first seed to soil,,,45 years ago...
Takes time to learn. Be patient, go ahead and ask the questions...
Don't fall for nutrient makers hype.
Very few nutrient lines will work "right" the way they say!
Rule of thumb for most nutrient lines:
First 2 weeks after starting bloom.....Keep feeding Veg nutes
Week 3,mix veg and bloom half and half.
Week 4...go all the way to 100% bloom nutes
That simple tip. Will save you beginners blooming headaches!

BTW - The "KIND" line I like. I DO start it's bloom - right at the flip...
Their NPK ratio's are far better then most, for our plant of choice..

Hey Dr. Who. So, you don't water until run-off, right? So, how do you fert? You said in a previous post, your plants get the proper nutrient dose. But that's the question I have. What is the proper nutrient dose in this kind of watering regime? It's not very well documented. So, for example, when you are watering every day, do you go full strength, then two waters with no ferts? 4 waters, 5? Without runoff, how do you manage the salt buildup?

Ok....I water full strength nutes.
Everyday
Amount watered is determined by pot size and how the plant use's the fluids.
Basically, at every up pot...Straight water, maybe a 25% grow nute charge and always 5 ml of Kelp extract per gallon. Water that to just a little bit of run off and nothing till the pot is light and the soil is dry.
Amounts of nute mix per pot size? - depends on how fast the plant use's it for all amounts. Plant size in the pot, does effect the outcome.
Solo's get about 4 TBL (Vegging plants don't get much as far as nutrients at all - my soil is longer lasting (available nutrient) then over the counter soils)
1 gallon about a cup
3 gallons between 2 to 4 cups, depending on plant size..
5 gallons 8 cups during bloom.
Now then. Some strains do get differing amounts of nutes.
Some strains like less N.
A few like a lot less N.
It goes basically like this.
Heavy feeding plants get the scheduled amount given by the feed chart.
Reduce the "Base"or the N nute by 25%for the less N plants and run that.
IF, me stilol get too dark a green or (horrors) get "shiny" - reduce the Base nute by another 25%
I have plants that are Mg HOGS......but, I also supplement Mg sulfate and K sulfate for other reasons and yet, that Mg sulfate keeps those Mg hogs happy..
You will find that about everyone on grow sites.....Leave something out of everything they do, as far as feeding routine's....
I, generally don't go into complete detail when asked specific questions,,,will answer them..
A savvy and patient person here...Could piece together exactly what I do by reading a lot of my posts..
I will not give out my soil recipe's in a complete form though....so don't ask...Something I just won't part with.....I feel I put too much into it, to give it away for free.

I have learned a ton reading your posts.
Do you ever need to leach your soil before re amending it?
I use organic inputs and I have been amending the same soil for about 3 years and I would usually water until I had a small amount of runoff. Then last year I was trying your style of watering daily without runoff for 2 runs. I never leached the soil previously and was running a batch of the soil again this spring and the runoff color was a nasty yellowish orange color with high ppms. I don't know if the build up was already there when I did the 2 water daily with no runoff grows.
I have since leached it heavily to get a good color runoff with lower ppms. I'm still using the same soil in a perpetual and my plants appear fairly healthy.
I was wondering if it is normal to occasionally leach soil when using organic inputs before re amending it?

I "cheat."
My used soil root balls go into a plastic kiddie pool to compost the root ball. This is done outdoors and it is exposed to the elements. The pool has drain holes in it..
By the time the root balls are composted the soil is washed out by nature...
Then I re amend.
You ask and things become clearer..eh?
