Question about growing in a town house

Hello all, Im new to the forum and would like to say that I have learned alot of valuable information for this short period of time I been here. Thank to all who have contributed!!

Now I cant afford to buy a house and I read some horror stories about growing in apartments so I was thinking of renting a 2bdrm townhouse which includes a basement and an upstairs with free heat & water & private entrances

Do you guys think using the whole basement to grow would be safer then renting an apartment and growing in a spare bedroom?

How much would I have to invest to keep the smell to a minimum? I want to grow around 12 plants

1.) I'd say this is a much safer option, as a basement will give you much more space to work with and you would be able to put up some walls if you wanted.
2.) $150 or so for a Carbon filter, then maybe $100 for a exhaust fan?
