question about light sorce change

I started some seeds in my window about 5 weeks ago(its to cold to grow outside) and have bought a grow light cheap from walmart untill i can get some cfl's. the plants grew taller with smaller leaves(there about 7 inches tall) compared to a more experienced grow where the plants are short with huge leaves. Is switching from the window sun to a grow light cause the plant to start growing more densly on top? any advice on lighting would be greatly accepted.

It depends on the light your using. When I start plants under 4 foot shop bulbs, the leaves never really grow big. But when I put them under a HID lamp they explode.

thanks and it seems they really like the light. its only been 24 hours and i can see that they are happier and so am i..hold on i gotta hit this....ok i was also wondering when should i move them from the grow light to a MH? or does it really matter?

5 weeks is plenty old enough to put under your MH, I move them to HID at about 3 weeks.

Depends on your vertical height of your grow area. Expect it to stretch 2x or 3x, depending on strain.
