Question about T5 HO fluorescents

I have a 4' x 4 bulb (54 watt each) fluorescent light. Can I remove 2 bulbs and us it that way for seedlings? Or will it damage or shorten the life of the bulbs or ballast?

I'd leave all the bulbs in there, if I were you. If anything, back the light off to about 3" for the first 3 days or so, then bring it down to an inch, and let 'em grow. Those extra bulbs won't hurt them at all, they'll help, if anything.

If it works with two bulbs then its ok but some need all four bulbs to work. So if it runs the two bulbs your cool but if not it wont work at all, they just have seperate ballasts for each bulb on most of these type fixtures which mean each bulb is run basically independantly. Peace

I wanted to reduce heat buildup until my new fan gets here. Currently using a 6" booster type that has seen better days/noisy. Have a 6" inline centrifugal and a speed reducer on order from Amazon. Fan was only 79.99 + 10.00 shipping. 440 CFM. Great deal! Looks like one HTG sells.
