Question for experienced Breeders

This is going to be my first attempt at breeding. I have done a lot of research for almost a year now and am finally ready to do it. Only question is, when growing out my population can I keep them small. Meaning only a couple weeks of veg then flip em to 12/12 and finish em off. This is after I have already crossed my male and female and I am planting their offspring Or, do they need to be grown to full size to get a good idea of what the plants will be like when grown normally? Any help/advice is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

You can give them a short veg time, it won't matter. You just won't get to see how they develop during a long veg period.

i've also heard that plants grown from seed that are allowed to reach sexual maturity before flowering will better reach their full potential vs force flowering them..

Thanks Guys, I was going to let them grow until sex was determined then flip em. O got a couple different combinations in mind and I'll be back crossing and everything to assure consistencies in plants. I know this is trial and error and could take years but I am up for the challenge to create something I personally enjoy and then hopefully let everyone else try it at the dispensaries in my area!
