question for experienced sea of green growers who flower immediately from clone...

This is my first SOG. I rooted 48 clones in an cloning machine and planted into 6 "beds" (the small grey home depot tub's) filled with Sunshine 4+ soil-less mix under 1000 watts hps. Waited about three days for plants to perk up and am now on day two of flower so five days total. The plants are roughly 6 inches apart with two rows of four plants in each tub. I can see the plants are going to fill the space very quickly. I am concerned I have planted too close together. My question: Is my spacing ok? I am considering getting six more tubs, transplanting half of them, and firing up another 1000 watt-er
Is 24 plants ok per 1000 watts when forced to flower immediately out of cloner? Would I get considerably more yield if I ran the two lights or will I be wasting light at only 24 per 1000 watts??? opinions?
btw the strains are 707 headband and jillybean and cyco nutes.

hard to say.
i personally wouldnt plant that close, but some strains would be fine, others need more room.

problem being you dont have much more room under that light to place more.
i say roll with it, and adjust next time.

ideally you should choen individual pots.

You've pretty much answered your own question.

It is pretty much an inevitability that your roots will entangle.

IMO you should get 48 smaller pots.

i've seen very great results from using a bed as opposed to separate pots. i agree that pots are better but i chose to go with a bed for budget reasons as i have another dwc garden running in full effect as well space under the light is not an issue as i already have another 1000 watt-er and space for it. the question is would i be better off transplanting half of the plants (leaving 24 under each light with approximately 12 inches between each plant) before the roots get too entangled (i dug around a little and they are not entangled yet) for a bigger yield? it was hard to picture exactly how big clones would get when forced to flower so small but i've now seen some vid's that have me questioning my 6" spacing. i guess the real question is will i get the same yield from 24 small plants under 1000 watts as i would from 48? if so i might as well transplant and enjoy twice the yield keep in mind that transplanting will be very, very easy.

Your still good even tho they are in just a couple pots. Next time deffinatly get some smaller square pots. Just make sure to trim side branches, being that close you want single cola plants. If you don't want to cut them you can use some softer string that won't hurt the plant and tie the side branches right up on the main cola

Not my grow but I was impressed and it helped me to see it happen and I think he was getting like a half per plant

so, flight school, are you saying you think i should trasplant? it seems wasteful to cut all the side branching when i could just fire up another light and potentially double yield. from my research it seems fairly common to do 24 plants per 1000 light. so if i were to transplant do you think the 24 plants would still fill out enough space for 1000 watts with four per tub when only vegged for three days? again, this is my first sea of green so it's hard for me to picture how big these girls will get if i leave all side branching. i can't seem to find many good pic's online with a good explanation of veg time. the jillybean likes to branch out with huge colas and the 707 headband grows into one big top if not topped of trained. the SOG garden is mostly jillybean.

IMO this setup looks like an NFT system using rockwool blocks that keep the roots contained within the cube air pruning any to the sides.

The roots never entangle because they are kept within the rockwool.

Something that could help you with the tubs is to use some kind of plastic sheet to seperate the tub into sections.

Just push it between the plants to the bottom of the tub. This will give each plant its own make shift container.

Depends on pot size. Usually u will see 1-4 plants per square foot. I run 25 in 7x7 buckets in a 4x4 test under a 1000 or 49 in 6x6 buckets. Basically just single colas in the latter..

To me it looks more like a flood table for a flood and drain system. I could easily be wrong though. Either way it looks impressive.
