question grommet fittings

Building my first DWC and wanted to ask a question about grommet size.

for example when building your side bucket water level tube. grommet + elbow connector + tube right.

if my elbow connector is 1/4 internal diameter, 3/8 outer diameter.

the grommet size I need to get will be?

1/4 ? or 3/8? should I use the outer diameter measurement so it fits better?

if I get a grommet that is 1/4....... will the (1/4 ID 3/8 OD) be a tight squeeze? or should the grommet be 3/8

You need a 1/4" grommet...it will be tight but a 3/8" grommet will be too large.

in my opinion, you don't really need the tube to check water levels. your gonna be checking your pH probably twice a day so you'll have the lid off for that i'm guessing.

no problem. and it's also going to be a breeding ground for the nasties since it will be much harder to clean out all the nooks and crannies vs just a plain old bucket.

Check out uniseals. Usually cheaper and easier to use, IMO.
