We leave early tomorrow morning and will be back late Monday night. I intend to water the little ones either late tonight or around 4:30am tomorrow morning. We'll be back home about 1am Tuesday morning. I don't have the option of asking anyone else to water them for me. Should I drench them before I leave or just give them their usual waterings? Am I going to come back and find my girls burned to a crisp??

"try a bowl under it with a little water to wick up".

Are you saying place each pot into a bowl with a little water in it? Has that worked for anyone else on here?

i would never over-water!

now how often you have to water your babies, what is the soil volume in the pots?
if you have to water daily you have to options, on is to by an auto-drip system like from gardena or something cheaper or you build your own little system with a few small hoses and q-tips. that then either powered by a pump o a timer or negative pressure and gravitation.

that is one way to, but rather put a higher bowl into the center and wicks/ hemp ropes to each pot so that the pot is the lowest point outside the bucket with the water. that would work too;)

Great advice. Thanks to all. I have 3 of the 5 in 3 gallon pots and 2 in 1 gallon pots. I usually water every 3 days. I last watered on Sunday, so I should be watering today and again on Sunday. So really, I'd be 1 day overdue. Guess that should be ok.

We got back last night and I checked on them this morning. They took a beating in my absence but surprisingly they don't look all too bad. 4 of the 5 looked a little wilted and thirsty. There's one that looks like a champ - nice and green and Christmas tree in shape. I watered them this morning with regular tap water with some chlorine removal drops that you add to your fish tank. I've never given them that before so I hope it doesn't damage them.
So far I can't tell sex of any of them. They've been in 12/12 for 5 days now. This evening I will examine them a little better. I also need to get a 30x magnifying glass.
