Question on grow room

Hey Guys,

I recently been having some ventilation issues with my grow tent (up till now I just left the tent open to vent and left my AC on to keep it cool) but now they are getting bigger i want to close the tent up.

my problem is my tent has a 6 inch hole on the left and right side of the tent that is close to the top and a 4 inch hole at the bottom.

I have a T5 light setup and T5 lights should be placed 2-5 inches from the plant, which is nowhere near the 6 inch holes. The hole closest to this is the 4 inch hole. I could put the vent fan here but when they start growing more where will I put the new vent fan?

I also wanted to use the 4 inch hole for airflow from outside.

I guess what I am getting at is would it work if I got a 450 CFM fan and put it at the top (even though my lights are all the way at the bottom) and pushed air into the tent fromo the 4inch bottom hole? would this keep the tent at a nice temp? or does the vent fan have to be right at the light level?

Also what sounds better as I have never dealt with the high velocity fans before...a duct fan that is 300 CFM for 30 bucks (could buy 2 and put one at each end of ducting to boost the CFM) or 1 high velocity 424 inline fan for 100 bucks?

any help would be great guys, thanks

Set up something like this:

The CFM rating of the fan depends on the BTUs generated in your room and the ambiant temp at your intake.

thanks a lot, Bonzi. I just needed confirmation that I was able to put the fan above the lights instead of at them. Your drawing is exactly what my set up will look like, so i feel better now knowing it will work.

thanks again.

How many lights are you using, what kind. You want to make sure the fan can exahust all the heat and the carbon scrubber you will be putting om it.

I was thinking of getting a 4 inch duct fan and connecting it to the bottom of my tent with a duct hose going to my AC unit to push cold air in. The using the high velocity fan with a home made carbon filter at the top to pull the hot air out. Then I will have my circulating fan and co2 going inside as well.

I think i am going to just buy the 424 high velocity fan rather then the 2 duct fans, for the venting out of hot air, at least I know it will work well.

thanks again for your help. This website is great

i am using a 4 bulb, 4 foot T5 light system. I have them about 4 inches from the plants right now and they are going well.

so you think the carbon filter be better on the inside of the tent? I was going to put it on the outside, but I'll try the inside and see how that works out. thanks a lot. You've been a big help

Really? I did not know that. Thanks for the heads up guys. I was going to put it on the outside after I made it. Like this: https://www.rollitup.org/do-yourself/101248-best-diy-ez-walmart-carbon.html

So this will not work?
ok, technically how he did it works, but it is not the optimal set up. by putting the filter on the outside and pushing air through it you are leaving all of the internal air smelling. any leaks in the box will smell like crazy. all commercial carbon filters are built to pull air through them.

that makes sense. thanks a lot. I will def be putting it inside. This is my first grow so I am happy there is a place where I can get advice. thanks again
