Question on how to run my carbon filter and duct muffler.

I could use some help on configuring my grow tent which is 32x32x63". My 6" carbon filter fan combo is a total of 26.5" so fitting that in my tent will not be the problem. My problem is how to run my 6" duct muffler which is a total length of 18". Obviously it doesn't fit into my tent, but I am not sure how to run it. Should I use ducting from my carbon filter to the duct muffler and then somehow run it outside my tent? The duct muffler is pretty heavy and I don't want to lay it on top of the tent, but I am at a loss as to how or where I should configure it.

Any help or unique ideas are greatly appreciated.

I'm afraid if I run ducting from the carbon filter to the Duct muffler, then that will defeat the purpose of having a duct muffler. Am I correct in this assumption? Anyone? Bueller, Bueller?

Thank you for your answer, but I guess my real problem is how to connect my duct muffler to my carbon filter if I am left with no room in my tent. Do I run it like this: 6"fan<Carbon filter<Ducting<Duct Muffler???

I really don't think adding a short piece of tubing will increase the sound that much if especially if you use acoustic ducting and solid fittings (90's) which you can wrap with insulation to lessen the noise even more.
The noise you should be left with is what is comming out the end of the pipe which is where you will put you muffler which should reduce the noise conciderably, although I have read where people use a spliter with a damper on one side letting you controll the amount of air passing through each end effectively reducing noise also. Just another alternative I'll think more on it today and see if I can find another solution.

Hey P, Thanks a lot. You have really helped me out before, and you're here again so I appreciate it....

I will look for some acoustic ducting. I'm just not sure how pliable that stuff is. But I will see.

You shouldn't need a muffler.

I have an 8" fan connected to a 6" Can 66 Filter. It's extreemly quiet. If anything, just buy insulated ducting. You may consider wrapping the actual fan in insulation as a last resort.

Really??? I wasn't totally sold on the duct muffler anyway, and I think I will switch to the Can 66 and a Can 6" HO inline fan, and see if that will work for me. I also have on order a speed control, so I guess that will help keep the sound down too. Gracias.

Air flows through the carbon filter through sound insulated ducting to your fan through sound insulated ducting out of the tent to your duct muffler. As I understand the muffler just muffles sounds traveling directly out of the fan and through the ducting or sounds created by high air movement - if you have sound insulated ducting it should work just as well outside of your tent.

This is the only speed controller I recommend:
http://aeroponicsnmore.com/climate-control-ventilation-c-23_5/temp-2v-fan-speed-control-variable-idle-setpoint-p-181

It will keep your room at the perfect temp without needing an AC or any dialy adjustments. WELL WORTH 4x the money imo. Awesome add for anyone using an open-loop system.
Awesome gadget, I might need to get one of those. Here it is for a bit cheaper http://www.growsmarthydroponics.com/Grozone-TV2-Temp-2-V-Multimode-Fan-Speed-Controller-_p_3333.html?gdftrk=gdfV22646_a_7c984_a_7c3714_a_7c36119

Here is a reptile thermostat that will turn the fan on/off depending on the temperature. Will not dimm the fan accordingly but rather turn on/off which isn't as ideal. $24 though. http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=Zoo+Med+Laboratories+RT-500R&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&hl=en&biw=1440&bih=719&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&ie=UTF-8&cid=16025023162487603154&sa=X&ei=MT-STfvbBouksQPql7S6Dg&ved=0CEkQ8wIwAA#

Well, I dropped the duct muffler from my order. I can't seem to find sound insulating ducting. The best I can find is this: http://www.wormsway.com/detail.aspx?t=prod&sku=TID620. The way I understand it, is that I will run my 6" GrowBright Tall Boy carbon filter/fan this way: Filter>Ducting>Fan>Ducting>Outside??? I hope I have this correct.

Looks like a great controller. I have never even seen one of these before. I will definitely pick one up for my grow tent. Much thanks for the tip.

if things get cramped INSIDE your tent, you can always hang stuff outside like i do... as long as you can mount it to the ceiling.

I live in a condo that we are going to sell in a year, so hanging things from the ceiling isn't really an option for me. I have to try and keep this grow tent small and contained.

I did drop the duct muffler from my order. It's just not going to work out with my tent, can't fit it inside, so it's gone.

I am not planning on using an air cooled hood. Do you think I really need one?

This is some of what I have on order so far:

I have more of course, but that is the three main components...I would appreciate any feed back.

Hey Gastanker, thanks for the tip on the lumatek ballast. Is the ballast that I am getting a bad one? I am on a really tight budget with this grow and I am trying to do the best I can with my money. Plus I am really anxious to get this order through in April so that I can be up and growing by the end of May/early June.
