questions about outdoor/guerilla grow in canada?

I'm curious about outdoor growing. I am currently growing indoors but considering at least scouting an area for a guerilla grow. Like the indoor grow I'm in information gathering mode, trying to soak up whatever I can. Ask some questions and read/watch any guides, howto's or videos I can find. I'm in Canada, so any help from outdoor growers would be helpful and greatly appreciated. We're currently having some thunderstorms/rain but I think the temperature will undoubtedly get better. Lately we haven't dropped below 60's alot. We have 16hr days now (sunlight) and 46N above the equator on the eastern shore. I have easy access to woods, without going into a field or being too obvious. I'm actually pretty familiar with it back there and I think I could find a good spot.

I'm guessing they'll be wildlife, so I think fencing or possibly urine or some other foreign sent may keep them at bay. I'll probably go back several times and look for signs of human, animal contact around the area. eg. broken branches, poop, tracks.
I beleive there should be areas where I can plant it within other life around here; trees, ferns, grass, etc... I could also simply put them into pots and place them somewhere outdoors if soil quality will be an issue.

My first couple questions:

Are feminized seeds ok for outdoor grows? (I have on hand; ak48, white rhino, some kush and lemon haze)
Should I use indiginous soil or is it best to use same mix I would for indoors?
Can I use local water or is it best to bring in water myself?
Can I use same fertilizers as indoors or do I use manure, worm castings, bat sh-t? (I have General Organic, biothrive grow/bloom)
Are open areas best or should it provide for some "rain cover"?

If anybody has some tips, guides or anything else I'd be happy to hear or discuss. If those strains or feminized seeds aren't good idea I can always look for different ones... or simply wait until next year. But I do want a good spot or spots I can go back to. This is only question/answer seeking.. But again it would be nice to know this stuff

Thanks. I know I'll get some good responses. Everybody's been so great here helping my indoor grow.

"Are feminized seeds ok for outdoor grows? (I have on hand; ak48, white rhino, some kush and lemon haze)"

It's not the sex of the seed but the strain. In Canada we have a shorter growing season, lemon haze might take too long to flower.

"Should I use indiginous soil or is it best to use same mix I would for indoors?"

Most out door soils are packed and dense, hard for the roots to grow and a poorly developed root system will reduce yield, potency, increase flowering time. When you find your site dig a 10 gallon hole (at least - deeper rather than wider) and fill with Pro Mix, water absorbtion crystals, time delay marijuana fertilizer. If you dig a few feet down you might hit some water that will seep up the Pro Mix to the roots.

.

"Can I use local water or is it best to bring in water myself?"

Test the water for PH and PPM, adjust the PH in the field every time you water. Local water should be fine unless there is mineral problems. Ask around or check the net.

You can, but you'll have to fertilize often, go in the woods to your plants regularly. If you get some time delay fertilizer you're set if you can't get to your plants regularly (and you have some rain to keep them watered).

You need in the open for sunlight.

.

For the area to plant in check the net for maps with government land highlighted, pick an isolated area that you can get too regularly.

For the site:

- get a hand held gps and take a hike by some water - lakes, rivers, streams. You don't want to have to haul 5 gallon buckets of water a mile to your plants. Has to be open for sun and out of the way. If you plant in 2 or 3 spots you give yourself insurance against your one grow being found.

- a friend up in the rockies helped harvest grows on platforms at the top of cedar trees. Sun from sun up to sun down and invisible to hikers and hard to see for helicopters, who are looking for clearings.

dont spend too much on seeds if its your first grow outdoors... It is defenetly not the same as indoor where the temp, humidit, bug situation, soil prep, ect... is all controlled.
outdoors , the weather can change within hours if not minutes, and the dangers of bugs , animals and thieves can be very harsh aswell so, i say do it with killer bag seed or cheap ordered seeds for your first try.
As for your spot, just try to keep it somewhere that gets good morning sun and parshal shade for late afternoon. rain and wind will only make your branches stronger.
for soil, if your woried, dig a hole in the ground and fill it with triple mix or your favorite soil and cover it with mulch.
And for water , best thing for it is rain water mixed with your favorite nutrients.
hope im of some help.

First off. Let me thank you for the thourough answers.

It sounds like I need anything with a short life cycle. Not necessarily a type of strain like sativa or auto. I have a few freebies as well as bought. That is sound advice though. Keep redundancy but keep price down in case of problems like pests, human interferance, etc..

When you mean time delay. It doesn't have to be a type made for marijuana but time release nitrogen for veg, etc.. and provide some of the other nutes needed like calcium in smaller doses then? I think I've seen some water absorption crystals at hardware store. I'll see what they have. Should I follow the directions or is it a bit off like the fertilizer quantity?

I do have a topo map on my gps for basic stream/river info as well as some local knowledge. I won't get into it but there are no crown land here for km's... Which is good. I'll make a rain catcher tonight while its raining and save it for ppm/ph testing. I can compare it to distilled/spring water later on. I know this is a stupid question, but realize I haven't used a tds/ec meter and waiting for one to arrive here. Whats a good "starting" ppm reading?

I'll look for a partial clearing. That sounds like best way to get some cover in middle of the day. That is an insanely brilliant idea! nobody in their right mind would look up a tree for a grow. We don't have alot of cedars but a maple or birch with a platform should be ok. I'd have to think of a method of getting materials up there but a series of pulleys should help in anything heavy.

Thank you, yes its been very helpful and I think I have a good start now.
I'll go in later for a hike with my meter in hand, gps and see what I can find.

Fox Farm has a great time release fertilizer specific for marijuana called American Pride, dirt cheap too. You can pic it up at ebay or many hydro stores.

I usually go light on the nutes and watch the plant to see if it needs more.

I found a small pouch at the store I found dolomite. It might take a few of them but depends how many plants I stick in grown. I think I saw american pride at the hydro store... But I will look around, there's definitely time for it.
I'm reading a few threads around and totally shocked at the "stoner" ingenuity. I may try a rain collector too. I'm wondering if it could be made into a drip system or something.
