hey i have a question i haven't been able to clear up through the masses of reading how deep should i dig and how wide and any opinions on using cow and chicken poo vermiculite pearlight and some sand and bark for my soil that ill be using to grow in and i dont mind carting it out as i would pre mix and keep it dry as a bone until i have finished as the soil in my area is very rich with clay

also going to use a drip type system with a fountain pump and burred irrigation lines it will have a mini solar panel ill also have backup but you get the idea if you know of better irrigation that works without a pump please let me know

The drip system is a good idea but it's also just 1 more thing someone might notice, leading them to your plot.

I'd say you want to dig your holes about 2-3' round and 2' deep. If your holes are a good size your plants will need a lot less, if any, water from you.

If you want a soil mix that you can just water and forget til harvest you should look into making super soil, there's a link for it under Subcool's organic section.

My native soil has alotta clay in it to and I played around with diffrent soils and stuff scence it is my first grow and the best I had was 25% peat moss and like 10% dehydrated horse manure and the rest native soil and the plants I had in there were growing incredible fast compared to the plants I had in store bought soil but I also forgot peat moss or perlite in that lol but I wish I could show pics but almost all my plants got eaten by a ground hog little shit but yeah idn if this helps or not

you reap what you sow applies to everything in outdoor grows. i "try" to dig 4x4x4 ft. holes, but this isn't always possible, as clay n rock comes into play. small holes dug in clay act like retaining holes and will drown plants during heavy spring rains. let any manure cook for a few months to years( chicken shit is very hot), i let my fertilizers
cook over winter, as i dig my holes in late fall before ground freezes...peace

same here, it appears my lightly amended holes, amended with just a little composted tree ( fallen tree in the woods full of termite poo and black decomposed wood, good stuff!) and a very small amount of perlite/verm/peat mix and they just LOVE it, they aren't going nuts cus it isnt premium soil mix but they grow very well in it.

I am in subtropical area with very heavy clay base soil, which is also very fertile if used correctly

Bug yeah, for my type of guerilla growing, i hike NO soil in any more, i cannot it is too risky. I am trying to formulate a soil mixture purely from sources in the forest itself, which should be easy in a subtropical forest! lots of different trees/grasses all making me compost

thanks guys the chicken poo is like 6 months old and been sitting in the sun for all of that i forgot to say i live in Australia so it don't freeze hear worst we get is a little frost anyway i think i might use the clay content to my advantage and make a shallow wall so i can hold some moisture and build my plots up off the ground a little still picking a spot at the moment need to get a move on as spring has just started
