Questions About Updated Supersoil in Weednerd 36

Hello RIU,

I've been busy reading damn near every post in this section of the forum over the past week, but (like everyone else) I still have a question about Sub's most recently updated take on his supersoil mix. I'm also hoping the man himself can chime in here, specifically with any noted effects of the new additions to the mix.

According to the most recent info I can find (anywhere), in Weednerd episode 36 Sub added 2 cups each of crab meal, kelp meal, and oyster shell to the supersoil mix (also going up to 2 cups azomite, instead of 1/2 cup). I realize this was a slightly larger batch of supersoil than normal and that the measurements aren't exact, but my questions are:

1) Were these new amendments added to compensate for the fact that the Roots Organic soil base was cut with Coco and Light-Mix?

2) Would adding these materials still be beneficial if you were to leave out the Coco and Light-Mix (and went with straight Roots), or would this cause an imbalance/deficiency/burn?

3) When using reverse osmosis and these new amendments, could you theoretically toss in some extra epsom salts and be more or less good to go on the cal/mag?

The crab, kelp, and oyster seem like great/common ideas (and they're in small amounts), so I imagine they'd only help, and to my understanding the coco would be mostly for water retention. Long story short, I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this newly updated supersoil. Any particular benefits?

Thanks!

Since subcool and dioxide were just making it, I doubt they know exactly how it performs yet. But Sub will update us all in time, im sure.

cheers

After thinking about it, that's the response I expected. If the batch in question was made around the middle of February and left to cook it is probably just about now ready to start growing in. I guess partially I was curious whether any of Sub's followers had already tried this method and had successful results (hence Sub's decision to use these amendments in his own mix). But of course, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

If anyone learns more about tangible benefits to adding these new ingredients to the existing supersoil recipe, I'd be interested to hear about it. I'll keep an eye out for updates as well.

Peace,
Froggy

hmm, I was thinking about going a little overboard with the azomite... this just might convince me to go add some more to my bins and mix. Any idea on how long that would push final cook time back to (I'm at day 20 now)?
