quick cfl question

i was wondering if i should use general purpose cfls, for vegitative growth or soft white?

i have three 42 watt general purpose cfl's. i wasn't sure what the color on those are. i have found 40 watt soft white, but i thought those were for flowering

get the cooler temp cfls for veg...

the soft ones are the warm spectrum lights for flower


... often times it goes in order of BRIGHT WHITE (blue spectrum) to DAYLIGHT (fullspectrum... not as good for veg as bright white or as good for flower as soft, but will work...) and SOFT WHITE (red spectrum)

so what color is the general purpose, the bulbs or case that they came in didn't say the color.

it dosn't list anything like 6000k or 5000k for color temp?
usually listed around the same place as it says the lumens...


but yeah, the general purpose ones are gonna be better for veg that the soft white ones... buut it wouldn't be a bad idea to get a some of both for more broad spectrum coverage (plus you'll need to the soft ones for flower later...)

I have daylight 6500K. is this good for veg?

the general purpose ones that are 42 watt 150 watt equivelent are for flowering... they look orange when they are on... The other ones... look blueish when you turn them on.. Hope this helps... PS... I used the orange general purpose for both veg and flower... thy are working fine... GL

i was wondering the same thing,i think the lower kelvins 3000 are for veg and the 6500 for flowering,i believe i read that about ten times in all the journals i read,but i have to read something 12 times to remember it.

see my memory is bad it is the 6500 that is blue and the 3000 more red.

Right on Trapper baby! lol. That short term memory thing is a bitch, right? Yeah, 6500K/Daylight for veg, 2700K/warm white for flower. For some silly reason, GE only includes the specific color spectrum on their Daylight bulbs. I looked it up, and their so called "general purpose" bulbs are 27K - the ones in the green and yellow package. They make that nice little fat 42 watter, but for some reason decided not to put out a 42w 65K bulb. Too bad. By the way, FORGET those GE 42 watters: they're like 8 bucks! Don't get me wrong, I'm using a couple for side lighting, but I just found some sweet new 30 watt 27K's that put out 2600 lumens each. $3.50. Sweet! The GE 42w put out 2700, so... Nice.
