I just bought the 150W Sun System HPS. I'm wondering if I can use a 150W Metal Halide bulb in it as well or is that a whole different get up? Thanks in advance.

Skunk, the only 150W MH conversion bulb that I am aware of is the Ultra Sun 150, please understand that the world is full of things that I'm not aware of. These are not to expensive 30-35 but, good luck finding one.

So since these are rare, is it even worth it to risk it? will it by chance kill my ballast or reflector
It shouldnt kill your ballast or mogul socket or anything. To be honest though I do not consider it worthwhile, I knew the 150w conversion bulbs are a bit hard to find cuz i contemplated going with 150w very briefly myself, but i didnt remember it being that rare. You will be perfectly fine vegging with your hps and whatever cfls/tubes your using, I took a peek at your journal but im kind of lazy and so I'm just gonna ask, how many and what watt and spectrum cfls did you end up getting so far? If youve got some blue spectrum cfls you for sure dont need to bother with a conversion bulb. Ive gone with all red spectrum for vegging and all blue for vegging(and a mixed spectrum of both, which is what works best for me in my experience, better than using just one or the other) and it really didnt/doesnt make a difference in the end. using all blue for flowering doesnt work as well as red unlike during veg just so you know, and again mixed spectrum beat using a single spectrum for flowering just like w/vegging. It would be cheaper and you'd have more lighting if you spend the 30 or so for the conversion bulb on blue spectrum cfls and keep the hps going. You wont need to spend the full 30 bucks on cfls for side lighting btw, for one plant 4-6 26w 6500k for side lighting will be plenty.

Yeah but if it's preferred that you don't because you can screw your shit up then why would you do it? I'd be PISSED if I blew up my lamp.

Yea I wouldnt fuck with your eq, its tooo expensive to replace. They prolly put specs on eq for a reason- Here I found a link for you that sells 150 watt mh conversion bulbs that work in hps or electronic ballasts. I've never bought from this site, but wanted to give you an example. I use a 250watt mh conversion bulb in my hps ballast, and I like it...

I have put a mh bulb while using a hps ballast with no problem what so ever.
I've seen alot of growers I respect on here say this(you included of course). Could you do me a big ol favor and explain why its ok? It seems to go against everything ive ever learned about lighting and safety and all that. I'm asking because I want to know, im not trying to ridicule you or anything of the sort. Thanks

As far as I know the only difference between hps and MH is the initial start up voltage required to start the arc. I aswell have used MH in HPS ballasts for years with no problems. The MH I beleave takes a lower voltage to ignite
