Quick question about flushing...

hey guys I am winding down my first grow but I have one quick question. I use store bought water because the well water here is pretty nasty with iron, sulfur, microbes etc. But I was wondering if it would be okay to flush during the last week with this water or would it mess up the taste? Let me kno what u think. Thanks!
 
If you haven't over fertilized, flushing or not flushing will make no difference in the taste of your smoke. One of the biggest myths you'll see on this site.

ok thanks man but I haven't only heard it on this site. Something about toxic salts building up in the soil, no truth to that?
 
i usually flush, but I don't have enough experimentation to tell you if there is truly a difference...but I have always wondered why the fox farm nutrient schedule says to feed every other water all the way through...someone should do a side by side experiment!

Keep in mind, if you over fertilized then it might not be a bad idea. But if the plants are happy and healthy, feed them to the end. If they don't want it they wont take it.
 
Alot of people stop their nutes and go with straight water for the last 1-2 weeks instead of flushing.

I dont over Nute my plants and i notice a difference when flushing....Its not a myth at all, you should do a flush at the end at least....Its the end of its cycle, ya the flush might shock your plants a little but who cares there not getting any bigger at that point anyways so theres no real down fall to the flush.......It can only improve the taste of your final produt not make it worse........You dont have to use the store bought water to flush...even though i dont understand why you wouldnt if you have been using it the whole grow anyways whats one more trip to the store ?? I use to flush with just plain water that was PHed but now i use 1tsp of flora kleen for every gallon of water i flush......I also switch to only water the last week before i go to flush.......3 days after flush i harvest usually.......
 
Why would you use a certain product for the entire grow and then consider changing it in the very end? To flush or not? Do farmers flush corn, tomatoes, apple trees? I wean down my nutes on a schedule and only give plain water the last two feedings. No rhyme or reason other than its the norm to flush. Others swear by not flushing for the reasons already stated above. Stick with the store bought water until you chop. No need to change it up. JMHO :hump: Got pics?
 
I have done two A/B tests with flushing. Both were blind tests, no one knew which they were smoking.The first test had one hit of non-flushed and one of flushed in random order amongst three of my friends. Of course those smoking the first hit already had a buzz when they smoked the second. The results of who prefered which?... split right down the middle. (I had someone randomize my sample for me.)
The second test was the next day. I told people I had forgotten to write down the results, but secretly I changed the order of what people smoked the night before. Everybody prefered the OTHER smoke. In other words, they stuck with their previous results even though if they'd selected flushed as best the first day, they now selected non-flushed.These were soil grown.I don't bother to flush anymore.Don't take my word for it. Try it yourself.

final product is all about the cure and most don't know that proper curing requires N in order for the plant processes during fermentation to occur, your buds will be so much better if you get over the myths!

Amen, my friend. Flushing a perfectly healthy plant serves no purpose, It's a MYTH.

sorry that incorrect If you use flora kleen you dont need to flush more than once....further more i said i stop using nutes the last week before flushing aswell bewteen that and the flush its plenty....

Here are 2 independant smoke reports of one of my buds (original post in my Smoke N Grow thread)

it is from a plant grown with nothing but chem nutes and with no flush at the end

first is from Shrubs, a grower that is all organic

INFO
Tester Name : Shrubs First
Grower: Riddleme
Strain : NL Special (Tilders)
Method Smoked : Bong

APPEARANCE

A darker appearance with a nice saturation of trichomes

SMELL

Skunky and chocolaty.


TASTE

Similar to it's smell.


Overall a very smooth smoke with complex aroma and flavor. Look forward to the next puff.

TILDERS!! Awesome. Smooth and slight spice but very mellow taste...I cough very easily and could smoke it without worry of choking to death.

No wait ...I can tell you don't...This shit had my mind racing while I had melded as one on RM3's couch and questioned him on so many different things that I was too baked to remember the answers... if you wanna flush go for it,

i always flushed,

2 yrs ago i read somthing and i stopped, i just go with water for last 3 waterings (about 10 days) and that isnt a flush it is just

witholding nutes.

I truely beleive that the way your buds comes out is based on CURE i would AGREE with you totally............dosent mean i think that flushing is a myth...lol
 
I just finished my harvest ( 15 ozs from 6 plants ) and I fed up until night before harvest . I did a good cure and my smoke came out awsome. No nute taste at all. My opion is from my personal grow I just did. Not something I read somewhere. I will never do a final flush again . It's all in the cure !
 
Hey guys thanks for all the info! This is why I love rollitup, its been a lifesaver. Since this is my first grow and I haven't been able to test out either way I decided to go with just straight water for the last week or 2, which I think will be ok since I didn't use much nutes besides a little tiger bloom and mollasses, plus its a fastbud autoflower that I am about to chop and it has only had 2 months for the so called "toxic salts" to build up. I only posted this thread because I have been using Jorge Cervantes' Bible and he said to flush but I do realize everything in that book isn't 100% correct so I thought I would ask all the knowitalls on rollitup.org (lol j/k u all are great :) I just wish there was some scientific study which clearly shows (or doesn't show) different, unwanted compounds in the non-flushed herb. I have yet to read that article riddleme but maybe it points to one? And sorry but as a scientist I can't realy put any trust into an experiment or a conclusion from an experiment unless it is in a peer reviewed, scholarly article but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate your $.02! But anywho I will try and post some more recent pics soon and let u all kno how it turns out.
