In memoriam: The state's nascent medical-marijuana reform movement, just 10 years old, died this week at the hands of some of the same state lawmakers who gave birth to it. Ongoing fights about the state budget deficit, new taxes and redistricting led to the movement's untimely demise as pot activists struggled unsuccessfully for equal time before legislative committees. The state medical-marijuana program, such as it is, leaves behind nearly 5,000 patients who are left to contend with legislators' continued refusal to provide patients with legal access to the plant.
