Hey skiweeds im sure you are right about the HPS but i am using all cfl's and my buds are pretty dense and fat still got a few more weeks of growing so i am guessing im gonna get at least an ounce outta my girl you can have a look at my pics in the link below if you want to see it for yourself!!
Greennewfie, before we figured out that HIDs were good to use, almost everyone I knew that grew indoors used floros. You can grow some dank assed buds with floros. Folks have for years. Buut the SIZE of the yield, not the quality is at issue here. HIDs just produce WAY more Bud than do floros. The penetration factor is huge. All those little thumbnail sized buds at the bottom that I used to agonize over whether or not to trim or toss (the ones that dried into belly-button lint) suddenly became golfball sized when I switched from 400w to 1K lights. Those little bottom buds wouldn't even be there if grown under floros.
Floros are the way to go when you have a limited amount of space and can't have an air recirculation system connected to a bookcase in your living room.
Nothing wrong at all with floros, it's just that there is a much better way if you can adapt your circumstances to fit the added encumbrances.

400s are great. im actually using a 400 over a 600 right now because of heat issues.

240w of cfl's is somewhere in the neighborhood of 18k lumens. What's a 600hps? Close to 100k if I'm not mistaken. You're friend should do some research before telling you bs. That said, I have a 276w DIY cfl hood hanging next to a 400w hps in my flower room. No real comparison to be made on bud size, but the mixed spectrum I'm using in the cfl hood appears to be giving those little buds a nice frosty coating.
