RDWC question

Ya a 2” is 8-9 feet I believe. I’m a pipe fitter by trade. I don’t have the exact number on hand, my pipe book is in my tool bag at work. But just be wary of added fittings. Even a straight through valve has a higher than 1:1 straight pipe equivalent. I’m sure a google search will find it for you. It varies based on materials slightly too. Not even at the scales we’re talking to matter really but may as well know that
I'd have to have a huge pump and I'm not trying to do all that. Maybe I'll just try and close off the corner where she is idk. I put a couple pics so you can see. You can see the return would be right where zipper is but could probably cheat it enough to go right above it. The main issue is head room as you can see cause she is right next to the tent.

First I'm not a plumber nor do I know much about fluid dynamics, but I am a handy man and know how to do stuff. So my question is if I have to go Thru a wall with my return line and it has to go over 2x4s can I put a bump out in it? I made a drawing for reference. Don't laugh to hard at it but I did it fast and on my phone lol.

If I can does it affect water flow or anything I need to know? Return is 2" and supply is ¾ but might change the supply to 1. This is pretty much my system design except the bump out, mine is straight atm but will need to change it for its permanent spot cause the control rez will be in a separate room not In the grow room.
That bump will not hurt anything as your water level is above that and your pump will pull from one resv and dump to the other insuring you have a solid mix. I've worked this exact type of setup with no issues.

Ya you don’t need the fittings. You can just run your return at the height of the zipper. You’re using pumps and air stones I assume so it’s not like you’ll have sitting water. Are you not worried about light seeping in through the zipper with your pipe through it at all? I have heat issues and pull heat from my house duct into my tent through a port that has pull ties on the bottom. Does your tent have those? To avoid any light?

Yeah if the bump up don't affect anything then I would use the existing bottom thru hole in the tent, but if I had to cut a hole to run straight it would be right at the zipper. My biggest worry is cutting a hole and light getting thru.

Ohhhh ok I get it. Can you just raise it to the level of the existing tent hole and then have your return enter your res at that height? Cuts the fittings in half

I'm not 100% sure, I went off the premise that you want the return as low as possible but that's because that's what I read. I don't know how water flow and all that works if anyone knows late know please

No not necessarily. Where’s your pump? It’s in the reservoir feeding or pump is on the return? You can return to the top of the res if you wanted to. Supply off bottom, return on top usually works great. I crudely drew on your pic. Maybe I’m just confused and making it worse. I do smoke a lot

Right now I have a submerged pump in my control rez that pumps to my site and I guess it would be a passive return (undercurrent) from site back to control. I have an external pump I want to use just haven't set it up yet.

Let me add that this system works great the way it is and I figure in like 4 or 5 minutes it should turn the water once. I don't want to change it (except adding the inline supply pump) because once I get back down to my dedicated spot I'll just have to change it back. It would be nice to put current vegg girl in the tent for flower but I think she's already to tall now and I'll probably run out of head room.

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Whatever gets the girls fed is what matters. Have a great grow!

Thanks man. You got one going? What system you run?
Just got my first indoor on the go. I’m running DWC. Just 3 independent buckets. I don’t own where I’m growing and don’t want to risk any potential leaks or flood issues so I didn’t bother with making it recirculating. Just got extra buckets to make res swaps easy. I’m in a tent. I have a 5 x 9 tent I got at auction that was only supposed to be 4x4 so I’m just using half for now. Considering splitting it and adding a light for a veg and flower room but that’s down the road. I have a 1200 watt LED (Amazon special) that seems to be doing well for me. There’s 2 afghani blue and one candy store going right now. Just training them and thinking about scrog-ing it next week. Only ever grown guerrilla outdoor when I was younger so this whole indoor and legal thing is all brand new to me

Hell yeah thats how I start mine, in a single 5gal bubble bucket. I use the rdwc to flower in so when I harvest I clean it all up and put the one vegging in the bubble bucket into the rdwc then get another going and so on. The best of luck to ya. I have 2 of the 100$ Amazon blurples that I used to use the did great just small foot print

Ya I hope to improve on it in the future.

Ya the whole thing kind of came about as a project while I was off work with bad burns. I started messing around on auction sites and next thing I know I have almost 50 square feet of grow room. Everything else is up to par for scalability and in a worst case I can get another LUOAPP like I have and daisy chain it together. If I can scrog these three girls and get a decent yield I’ll run one or two more with it. I have a friend whose tent we’re going to use to veg and mine to flower so hopefully we get the rotation right and have ladies blooming all year

I wouldn't dream of doing hydro in a rental.. real quick way to get caught with a stupid water leak. I hope you have something under the garden that is 110% the capacity of all the water in your grow.

I do actually I have 3 5 gallon buckets and they’re inside a 50gallon kiddie pool inside a tent. Also like I said. No recirc. Just buckets. So unless a food grade plastic bucket decides to just let go there’s no risk. Also I’m in Canada and technically under the legal limit by a plant. I’m allowed to grow where I am. I wouldn’t try a guerrilla hydro op in a rental either.
