what I have learned from owning many digital meters is that you get what you pay for, and to me PH is VERY important. Just a tip for when you get one, always keep the cap on it when your not using it and this may sound like a pain in the ass but you should calibrate every time you use it. I use a HM digital ph meter now and by far its the best one I have ever owned, around 100 bucks but worth every penny. To calibrate it all you do is dip it in the fluid and push a button, 30 seconds later your ready to go. Accurate every time....

Ya and that link that you posed, I'd have to say that's a cheap Chinese knock-off, I would buy from the u.s. and get something different.

Don't worry about the soil pH, just make sure the water/nutrient pH is good and they'll be fine.

This is the one I use, calibration is a push of a button, it is waterproof and it floats... Great for those unexpected accidents :)
Oakton ECO Testr pH2...


Cost me $60 or so, but it will last for years. Great investment. You'll also need 7.0 calibration solution, no matter which one you buy.
Oh and some pH up / pH down.

thats a good PH tester..got one similar to that one, but mine was 70$.. must have a PH tester

I also use this one.....and it works well.
It has automatic temperature compensation and its water proof.

I just picked this same one up today as it was spoken of pretty highly by the dude at the shop. i have to dial it in though as it is measuring the GH 7.0ph solution at 6.7 out of the box. i figure they would have it dialed in for you right out of the box like my last milwaukee, which lasted me all of about 4 weeks. no joke, i just bought it in late august and what a piece of crap. don't buy the cheap yellow milwaukee one, it sucks donkey balls big time. did your guys's Oakton's come dialed in right outta the box or did you have to calibrate em?

Yes,But I checked with calibration solutions anyways to make sure.
