TRAVERSE CITY — Authorities arrested two Traverse City men in two different states on accusations they were involved in a local marijuana growing and trafficking operation that regularly piped pounds of high-grade pot to New York.

Ohio Highway Patrol troopers this week pulled over Bryce Cauchy, 34, of Traverse City, on I-80 near the Pennsylvania border and uncovered seven pounds of marijuana, authorities said. That stop prompted a Traverse Narcotics Team investigation that led to the seizure of more than 100 marijuana plants in Grand Traverse County and the arrest of another Traverse City man, 39.

TNT Detective Lt. Daniel King said investigators believe the suspects grew the marijuana here to sell elsewhere, specifically in New York. He said it fits with a recent trend of drugs flowing out of Michigan rather than into the state.

"I believe in the past year or two that has changed that Michigan is now exporting high quality marijuana to other states," he said.

Ohio Highway Patrol Lt. Michael Combs said an officer spotted Cauchy weaving across the lanes on I-80 in Lorain County, near the Pennsylvania border. He said that prompted the officer to stop Cauchy's 2015 Buick Regal.

"Our officers observed some things that led them to believe there might be something other than a traffic violation," he said.

Combs said officers brought in a drug-detecting dog and received probable cause to search Cauchy's vehicle. They found seven pounds of marijuana in a duffle bag in the truck, five grams of hashish and various items of drug paraphernalia.

Officers arrested Cauchy and took him to Lorain County's jail, where he's being held on felony marijuana trafficking and possession charges. Investigators believe he moved between 15 and 20 pounds of marijuana to New York each month.

Cauchy's arrest led to a TNT investigation in Grand Traverse County, where officers and state troopers on Wednesday searched a building on Irish Hills Drive and seized 40 marijuana plants. King said they searched a second building on Voss Drive and seized 71 plants, about two pounds of processed marijuana and about a pound of marijuana "butter."

Grand Traverse County Prosecutor Bob Cooney said Thursday that he'd yet to receive a police report on the second suspect.

Ouch! With the possibility of catching OH, MI, NY and federal charges, I cannot even fathom the stack of mandatory minimums these cats will face :o

I'm sure that will be why Ohio, New York and the Feds will seek courthouses outside of Michigan.

Bryce has been charged with the following in Lorain County, Ohio where arrested.
1. Trafficking in Drugs - Aid Sale Schedule I Controlled Substance
2. Drug Abuse - Possession of Marijuana
3. Possessing Criminal Tools

I doubt he will be seeing Michigan again anytime soon.

Furthermore, Michigan and their "Manufacturing Marijuana" charges are likely the lesser of any of these cats concerns.

Is that "Pure Michigan Wellness" you're referring to? At 8 and Van Dyke?

I was just out that way last Thursday and noticed their sign was all blacked out. Any idea what happened?

I take it the guy in the car snitched. Otherwise neither one of those plant counts sound illegal. No mention of how many medical cards they had.

I am no sure on the details of Suite B and Karma, but a former employee of Pure came into the shop today and was talking about how the cop came in while customers were there and cleared the place out.

That is exactly what I had in mind when the Feds come for their piece. Most of that CO to FL traffic nailed last year faced RICO charges, but that was also the goal of the DEA investigation leading up to the busts.

Looking them up, it looks like Karma and Suite B are in Inkster and there are several pure michigan wellness spots. My cousin said the one at 8 & Van Dyke moved across the street next to helping hand. I'm hoping the city is safe. Do you know which location the employee was from 941mick?

Here it is i believe .

Pursuant to MCL 333.26426 / ( H )( 3 ) , All law enforcement personel should contact the Michigan Dept of Health , Compliance Manager , or Program Coordinator to verify that the Registry Id is valid before entry of premise.

Furthermore Pursuant to MCL 333.2646 / ( H ) ALL illicit property that is possessed , owned , or used in connection with said Medical Operation , Storage ect , or acts incidental to such use SHALL NOT BE SEIZED or FORFEITED ,any person who takes posession or otherwise damages the materials on said premises will be committing a felony . Any Law Enforcement Personal that entered said premises without warrant , or who secured a warrant without full disclosure of the foregoing information to the court , BEFORE proceeding with any search & or seizure will be in violation pursuant to MCL 333.26426 ( H ) & subject to prosecution .

I think that paragraph neatly sums up our rights as growers , caregivers & users to legally deny entry to any & all LEO , it also makes their excuse of forced or coerced entry based on " in plain view " or " heavy odor emminating from building " secondary to our rights to refuse entry or search based on MCL 333.26421, which guarantees our right to posess & grow Medical Marijuana without prosecution .

Not sure if thats the info you were thinking about or not , you are correct about WILLINGLY ALLOWING any non authorized personel into your grow op being against the law weather they be LEO or regular folk , the fire marshall of Flint warned me about that tactic when i had my grow inspected before bringing plants in .
Where did you find this? I think maybe they changed the wording or something because I see nothing about before entry of premise from the LARA site.
