Recommended flower time and what I'm seeing

so I have some starpupil that is in 11 weeks of flower and under my scope it isn't showing the Amber colors I want in the trichomes. The company said it was roughly 9 weeks of flower time? Super purp strain so maybe they are just different appearing?

Breeder harvest times are " under optimal conditions " , so don't rely on that info that much , you will find that they will take as long as they need to take.

Can someone tell me where on the plant is the best place to determine the harvest time, the triches on the leaves of buds, the buds themselves, upper or lower level bud sites? Or does it make any difference? Thanks for any help.
 
Well check the buds u might have to harvest tops and leave the bottoms for a little longer if they ain’t ready this is what I do personally now... When I first started I let my plants go until the whole plant was done but that made all my top buds more sleepy weed since the bottoms took a few weeks longer ... So it’s all on what kind of smoke u want bud ..... Did your star pupil come out purple???? I have the deadly sativa that came with blue maggoo x star pupil freebies...

Thanks so much. I want something "up" but have no idea really what the beans were but the leaves seem sativa (thin and long).. I'm on week 10 of flower with marginal amber so that's why I asked. Just don't know where to sample for tiches. At this point and given the temps (60sto high 70s) a lot are purple and yellowing bad as I started to flush. Thanks for your help.
 
Check at bud calyx ... Sugar trim areas can be a bit different , plus or minus ...

Sounds ( based on your description ) that you are pretty much there.

Thanks Budbuddha but as an aside, are you saying that harvest time determines the kinda buzz more so or equal to the genetics of the plant? That is if you planted a pure sativa and let it go mostly amber then the effect is like an indica? Just asking. Thanks
 
Yes amber is more sleepy weed /couch lock ... Cloudy is more mellow and clear is straight head high / paranoia..IMO

The potency of the THC - that moves from harvest ready to degrade ( ripeness ).
It's the Mycrene that is present in the levels of that strain.

Thanks again but I guess I need to do a lot more research not only on this but the entire field. Thought I knew what I was doing but I'm finding out that I'm just a newbee even though I've been at this since 2000...grow 18. It's been good but could be better I'm sure. Thanks for all your input.

Yeah buddy I typically check the calyx since most of the sugar leaf gets trimmed off. I did end up chopping her down and yes she is very very purple and frosted heavy with trichomes.
 
As far as when to harvest I'd say my conclusion it just depends on the strain and in general when I see 5-10% amber trichomes I will chop from now on. I don't need a couch locking effect I got shit to do . I usually only keep the top cola buds and some larger buds the smaller stuff i use for edibles or bho. This is my first time around not super lst I wanted to go old school and just see how it she grows without. I don't like the idea of chopping the top bud sites and letting the rest finish up. I'd imagine that would severely stress the plant but that's just my opinion. More than 1 way to skin a cat especially if it's just for you
