Recommended wattage for my grow cab.

Alright then...With that, i think i might get a cooltube. I was gonna go with an Econo-Wing to save $$$, but i think the heat will be an issue with it.

My current plants are under FLuros, and the two blueberries are about 10", and my big Lemon Kush is 18"....Im planning to flower soon, before the LK gets too big....I just want the BB's to catch up a little bit so that theres an even canopy when in flower.

When i get my HPS, ill hang it at the top, and it will be about 5ft off the floor of the cab. so with the 12" for pots, 18" for plants, and 12" for light space...Ill have about 24" of growth room for them...which should be enough.

Anyone want to recommend me a good brand of cooltube?

I would think as long as it is a cooltube it would be good.I shop at htg check them out. They give you a discount on the reflectors when you purchase a light.

My cab is 2x3x5, with a 400w... without a cooltube its pretty tough to keep in below 100 if you dont pump some AC wight in there.

I made myself a cooltube for 40bucks. with maybe a 120cfm fan exausting, temps stay 80-85.. depending on ambient temps.

Plants are maybe 12in away atm.. and just eating it up.

Hmm...im not to sure about the homemade cooltubes...

I wanted to get something pro...and correctly wired...im not too good with wiring (dont want to burn my house down)

The Sun Systems "Sun Tube" looks good...but its like $120...even with my 12% discount that'd be $100, plus 160 for my ballast, and 25 for bulb.

Internet purchases are out...i only buy in person and pay with cash.

Thats about $50 out of my price range. hmm.

Might i ask what area you live in corum? I live in a relatively cold climate, and with the coming winter season i think i might be able to stay around 80-85 in there with a 400w econo-wing.

i live up north ;) its getting colder out here too.. but really... without a cooltube... that 400w puts out a suprising amount of heat, i guess if you get a decent exhaust fan it would be fine.
cooltube really is an advantage for getting the plants up close and personal with the light tho..

Hmmm...damn im conflicted.

I can either get a Lumatek Switchable 250/400, and use it on 250 with a Econo-Wing for about $230

Or, i can get the same ballast and a cooltube for about $300.

They would both keep the temps about the same im speculating.

Ive got a 112 CFM exhaust in there...i might add another one when i get my hps. Perhaps i might be able to go 400w with the Econo-wing. Which would bring my costs up to about $250.

What people need to get into thier head is that your lighting is pretty much limited by your ventilation. I used to run 2-600 hps in a 5x2 foot closet. Temps hovered at 85. For plants I had 18 of them, 6 rows of 3. I vegged a very short time. Once they were all 4" to 6" they went to 12/12. I pulled 1.5 to 2 lbs consistently. Intake fan, exhaust fan, oscillating fan, read it, learn it, live it and smoke it.

Of course man...air circulation is the key....Lol i dont think any of this matters now, cause im going to be getting a 3x3 grow tent. So i'll have plenty of room, and ventilation.

I decided i should get one after this discussion, will be using my old box as a veg chamber.

Thanks anyways guys...this thread got like 200 views, 30 replies...Cya laterz.
