could build a diy insulating box for it which will greatly cut down on the noise level..

there's a good thread on here called something like the sound control thread, shhh, the neighbors can hear you.. i always have problems trying to find it via the search button, but you might have better luck using google and linking back to riu.org.

Insulated ducting kicks ass too. And try not to have any bends in the ducting for a few feet on either side of the fan. My fans are loud till I hook up the ducting.

depends how big the fan is and how big your room is.

insulation is the key.

if you have a grow cupboard then put the fan outside sucking air out.

if you have a grow room build a cupboard with 2 inch timber and plaster board and insulated it, and put the fans in there, it will be quiet.
i built boxes around my inline fans using 18mm mdf and insulated the box but it was crap they were still noisy.
i built a room inside a room and insulated the wall space with standard loft insulation and you cannot hear a thing in the main house.
motto : the more cash and hard work you put in, the quieter the grow room.

im in a 4x4 tent, but damn wish i had picked up some insulated ducting instead of the regular. but thanks for the help everyone!
